i have my mother's accent and so many of her mannerisms, while i like pasta cooked the same way my father does. my brother has influenced me a lot in so many ways, it's honestly hard to just pick one. my friends and i use each others' expressions all the time. every time i listen to kpop i think about my friend marta (she's the one who introduced me to the genre) and every time i listen to my chemical romance i think about my middle school friends. my idea of teaching is of course influenced by my violin teacher and when i put my violin away i cover it with my grandmother's silk scarf. i want to learn how to sew because of my other grandmother. from my grandfathers i got the love for watching documentaries and playing cards. these are just some examples that come to mind, but i love thinking about it :)

My favorite quote ever. I used to be afraid of not having a personality, always “copying” the tastes of the people I love. But now I’m proud. My comfort show is one that I once watched with one of my best friends, my music taste is kinda the same as my other best friend bc I listen to the playlists she makes (damn shes good), my bf makes me love everything he talks about with passion, I love watching movies with all of my friends. Almost everything I love reminds me of someone, and I know they think about me when they’re doing something I showed them. It just makes me so happy. However sometimes it makes me kinda sad because it reminds me of people who aren’t in my life anymore, but I’m happy to carry all of them with me always. <3 Of course I have my own taste sometimes, but since I don’t try to be “unique” my life is better.

basically every meaningful connection i make with people stems from a shared interest in one of these things. i think about it a lot and i'm not sure why exactly it is, but the people i'm drawn to most all seem to have common tastes. maybe the media we consume is a reflection of who we are as people, and this is what i'm seeing?

I’ve thought about this idea of amalgamation throughout my existence. I then think about how those people who have those interests, ideas or habits I’ve adopted got it from someone else. It’s like art when people are influenced by others’ work to create something. It’s not a complete copy but something inspired. How beautiful!!

i'm glad i chose history of african american music as one of my courses, it would've been quite hard for me to really understand the film otherwise. still learned a lot from it though!
