basically every meaningful connection i make with people stems from a shared interest in one of these things. i think about it a lot and i'm not sure why exactly it is, but the people i'm drawn to most all seem to have common tastes. maybe the media we consume is a reflection of who we are as people, and this is what i'm seeing?

It's all a social thing surely. you see what other people do and how others react to it, and that informs your opinions and how you react to others. Also if you try something and observe others reactions, even passively, you'll then continue to do things or not. This would lead to more interaction with / exposure to the thing, and acquired taste kicks in. So it's a reflection of what other people around you like, and a reflection of the volume of things that are around you, a combination of the two and a bit of special sauce that I haven't figured out yet, but definitely isn't money

I realized I have only been on dates with/in relationships with writers & artists, and I didn't even do that on purpose. Most of my friends are creative people as well, so I guess that tracks. I love smart people/nerds, but there's many different types of nerds and many different types of intelligence, and I feel like I'm not really drawn to someone if they're not creative on top of that. Even if their self-expression is in the form of fashion or something, it just has to be present strongly and earnestly somehow. Of course there's more qualities that are important & essential on top of this factor, but this seems to be a common thread for me.

the feeling i get after finishing a really good movie or finding a new artist to love finding joy and inspiration in the achievements of my friends and family, and knowing that they're proud of me like i am proud of them
