long answer- you’re not alone. and if your fears persist and impact your ability to try to live a meaningful life, I would really suggest talking to someone about it like a friend or a therapist. i say this a lot and I’m not even much of a Dune fan but— fear is the mind killer. for yourself, for the people you love, for the sake of even just switching it up sometimes, learn to draw upon your courage and practice it. you won’t regret it and I believe in you! 💛 (also according to my partner the bird flu is probably least of your worries at this point, unless it becomes another swine flu, idk tho)

You’ve been wanting to hang out with people more. You did the brave thing of asking people to hang out. Now the fear that has kept you from doing this is being super loud. To be expected! Buying into the fear is not going to get you what you want. Each time you act bravely, that part of you grows. What does this anxiety look like? Does the fear look differently? What would happen if you could comfort it? Do some classic CBT- instead of all the horrible what ifs, what if it goes amazingly well? What if you make a new connection that feeds your soul? Think of some mantras for yourself. Repeat them over and over. Each time you start to feel anxious, take a nice deep breath (exhale longer than inhale) and remind yourself. Everything you want is on the other side of fear. And I believe you are brave enough to do it!!

because I simply know too much. But I do also fear that faeries will entice me into their world and I’ll forget that I shouldn’t eat their food because it looks so good and then I’ll become trapped there forever. In my first appointment with my beloved former therapist I told her I don’t like to keep a diary because what if my work is published posthumously against my will like Emily Dickinson or Franz Kafka and she went ‘hmm imagined audience’ as she scribbled notes. Every time I feel an unfamiliar sensation in my body I have to talk myself down from thinking I’m dying but I’ve gotten pretty skilled at beating that one back. I’m still pretty afraid of ovens to this day after seeing my mom light her hair on fire while pulling a turkey out—TWICE!

I deal with a sort of lack of emotional object permanence. If my friends haven't shown or said they like me recently, I easily convince myself they never did. And if it's been a while since I've done something scary, I worry I don't have it in me to do so, even forgetting that I ever did. And I forget how well things typically go, especially after something bad has happened. It's hard not to feel like since my anxiety was right about this big thing going really badly, then it's going to be right about everything. But it's not!! It rarely is!! And if it is, I can deal with that!! Life moves on! It's never that bad!
