4 years ago I decided to tint all my lenses (Peep pfp with the pink). I currently own blue, pink, yellow, orange, and light brown, and alternate them from day-to-day. When I did this I got allllll the kickback from everyone in my life about how silly or dumb or immature it looked. Fast forward to 2024 and five different guys in my immediate friend circle now wear tinted lenses to some capacity. Sometimes you’re going to make decisions that are small (or big!) and the people around you will not understand why you did it, but stick to your convictions and keep walking forwards. Sometimes you‘re just a little ahead of the curve. (Sometimes you’re WAY off though — I’m looking at you, Yeezy-boost-wearers)

there's an abject horror to trying on eyewear in public. if you're stricken with uncharacteristic joie de vivre at the sidewalk stand, you might pick up a pair of insta-bait sunnies; hearts, flames, or god forbid the quintessential symbol of cool-- ray bans (just like goddamn tom cruise wore in risky business). you sheepishly look up at the mirror only do realize you are not a baddie and scramble to hide them before anyone can see you recognize your own limitations during dress up. today i went to the family eye doctor with my mom, which has potent regression abilities. my insurance covers a new frame every year so there's immense weight to this decision. i remember being in 8th grade begging for the tyler oakley horn rims. *shiver* the woman helping us is an estranged friend of my mom's, meaning it stays in the office. they run around amassing a pile of options for me like i'm a little boy prince. after a period of squinting and head-cocking at a square frame "not working for my round face and making my eyes look weird" its clear the attendant would like to wrap it up and settle on any old pair, but my mom has already planted her roots until i find the perfect look despite the line beginning to form. demonstrating expert resistance training, this disregard for social graces in service of a personal win is truly invigorating. *click* she loudly takes an unflattering photo of me on her phone so i can see what it looks like "in real life". fuck it, let me see that pair with the tortoiseshell arms!!! thanks for looking out!!

The last time I bought new glasses, a few months ago, I went to a store and tried on a million different frames for like a half hour. By the end of my try-on montage, I had a pile of glasses set aside, yet I chose the first pair I tried on, the ones I spotted as soon as I walked in the store. I pointed this out to the worker, laughing, and he proceeded to say something so profound: He was like, "yeah, everyone does that. No one trusts that their first instinct was right". Is that not jaw-dropping? Everyone does that? I carry this story around like a personal fable and now rec saving stress and time by going with your first instinct, it's literally probably right.

For fashion purposes? Yes. As long as, if they're too dark, you take them off to talk to people because that's polite. (Also, some glasses aren't fashion glasses and that's okay!) If the lights are too bright I also vote yes. Just tell other people when they ask so you don't look rude. As long as people know that you're not wearing them to block people out I think it's fine. I actually WANT it to be a thing because I have some outfits that need sunglasses but no one uses them inside so I can't because I'll look silly...

florinegrassenhopper riotgrrrl brendanooooo slowdazzle buck_mcgraw and indianjones — we did it. Not only did we successfully meet for drinks, but we also schemed the hostile takeover of this app from tyler tonight. In all seriousness — weird that an app I downloaded in April would make genuinely want to drive back into Brooklyn during end of day traffic for a happy hour. Great app filled with great people.

I feel like there’s a special connectivity on this app that I haven’t felt in a long time, maybe since early 2010’s tumblr. The fact that you can’t promote yourself like IG is wonderful. The fact that there isn’t mass video content like Tik Tok is great. It’s not this monetized / paid sponsorship app. People are here because they want to be a part of something with nothing to gain besides friendship. Seeing the URL -> IRL meetups warms my heart so much (waiting for an NYC or Brooklyn meetup). Thanks for your participation on this niche little app. I smile reading all the recs and all the comments and all the asks. Hope we’ll all be here for a long time.

I think a life rule for me is to surround myself with people who know more / are smarter / are cooler than me and just absorb their aura by listening / observing them. It’s made me the incredibly smart / cool person you all know and love. I just never thought I’d feel the same way about URL friends. I’m constantly listening to the songs I see posted here, reading the articles, subbing to newsletters, and googling topics that get tossed onto the feed. It’s nice to know you can become a more rounded person by just absorbing what your mutuals post on here. I’m going to sit on my couch, have a cocktail and digest my lovely feed. Happy Sunday!
