one of my favorite superhero comics of all time. written by al ewing and largely drawn by joe bennett, the immortal hulk brings the character back to its horror roots, adding a cosmic horror element as well. ewing is one of the best comic writers of our lifetime. the story finds bruce banner newly resurrected, discovering that exposure to gamma radiation gives a person access to a portal to hell. banner (who had dissociative identity disorder even before becoming the hulk to cope with childhood abuse) finds himself no longer in control of the devil hulk, one of his many hulk personalities. the devil hulk has taken it upon himself to creep out at night and punisher evildoers, like the devil. this comic is an exploration of morality, recovering from childhood abuse, the role of the devil, and cohesively bringing together decades of hulk history. it got me through college. it means a lot to me.
