today is gonna have a lot of comic book recs because i'm thinking a lot about comics today
archie vs predator II is the sequel to archie vs predator. archie vs predator is a fun comic about predator hunting and killing our favorite classic riverdale residents. the tone is zany and bloody and fun. you should read it.
but this is not a rec for archie vs predator. this is a rec for archie vs predator II. archie vs predator II is a direct sequel but also a tonal 180. the classic betty and veronica, after surviving archie vs predator, return to riverdale to find that the town/comic has been rebooted without them (between avp and avpII, archie comics did reboot the archie line to be more visually in-line with cw's riverdale while still maintaining the high school soap comic tone. it's a good reboot). i won't spoil the fun, but it's a good (if not overly-sentimental) comic about accepting change and growing up. i used to be a kid who thought i'd never be different from who i was in high school. and i have changed! and i really like this comic.

today (may 4!!!) is free comic book day! every comic shop in the USA is participating. all the major comic publishers created special comics highlighting current & upcoming series for you to preview and own - for free!! stop by your local comic shop if you want a reason to get out of the house today (comic shop locator linked)
my highlights:
ultimate universe/spider-man - if you're not tapping in to the new marvel ultimate universe, now is the time!!!!!!
energon universe special - i have only heard amazing things about transformers comics and am excited to pick up a preview to see if it's worth the hype
doctor who - i'll be real with you, i've never read a good doctor who comic. hoping this one changes my mind!
archie horror presents cursed library - i love off-beat archie stuff

if you follow comic books at all, you would know that the main amazing spider-man comic series has been shit for years. this new series is a fresh take on spider-man with some very cool twists to his classic origin.
i picked up 3 copies from my local comic book store yesterday :)
