A wonderful musical with an all child cast (including a young Jodi Foster, filmed the same year as Taxi Driver!) lip synching to songs sung by adults-- and the songs are actually all stand alone greats! As a tween all you want is to cosplay as an adult, making a movie that does just that (esp. one that includes guns and boxing and bootlegging and cabarets) is soooo genius. I watch this once a year and have the soundtrack on vinyl. I was reminded of it again recently because one of my coolest friends posted a screenshot of it on Instagram and it was the first time I've seen another adult express Bugsy knowledge/adoration. For a while it was mad hard to find but lucky for you it's now available via shitty rip on Youtube (linked above). Great snow day viewing!

Here’s the thing. This movie is perfect. it’s obsession in a time capsule. I’m on a lil cocaine talking to my partner about how much we both love it and i was like “dude I feel like bob fosse is rolling in his grave about the ariana grande video” and he said, “I actually feel like he is very at peace in his grave” and honestly after seeing his directorial collection, he’s right. That man had restless leg syndrome to its fatal conclusion. Very cool and very sweet though. Everything old is new again!

First saw this when I was 16 and never been the same. It’s such a comfort movie, depicts the 90s nyc club scene well, and I find it fascinating it being the first movie to premiere on the internet.
Fun fact: when I was a first year college student and was sad af, I watched Party Girl cuz my campus was doing a screening of the film, and throughout the week all I could just hear was the soundtrack in my head whilst walking through the city.

Using almost exclusively Barbie dolls, Todd Haynes is able to tell the story of Karen Carpenter's life and struggles with anorexia. I adore this movie and it's all free on YouTube (though the image quality is a bit shit)!!!!!
