in between a 9/5 work schedule and weekends where I’ve traveled either by plane or by car every weekend, I’ve found myself extremely burnt out and overstimulated. Remedying this throughout the week by actively asking for space from friends on weeknights and making an effort to reclaim my weekend so I can be comfortable again

I’ve learned that returning from a trip on a Sunday night and then going right back to work is often not worth it. My sweet spot is to come back on a Friday and then have a weekend at home to chill and do life chores before resuming work.
Ideal if you can also book some low key fun and/or relaxing activities when you’re back. A massage, an off-the-beaten track restaurant, a long walk. Preserve the exploratory, vacation mood so you’re not just doing chores.
Huge sub rec: When I go on a vacation vacation (time off from work, not just changing location), I always like to take a digital detox. I find that doing that resets my brain and helps me return to reality with a much healthier relationship to my phone and modern life busy work like processing emails. In an ideal world, I keep the phone off for a couple days post the travel (or at least don’t respond yet to missed messages). It helps taper the transition and make it less like “oh fuck that wasn’t my life and now I have to do my dumb lil job and catch up on my digital correspondence.”

and don’t do any errands or cleaning that day, just like set a little budget — get a book and read it in the park with a snack, or take yourself out to coffee / people watch and then go see a movie or two. or go to a museum right when it opens and then get lunch (outside!) for yourself and pick something else to do after. for me, at least one part has to be artistic (book/film/art) and another has to be outside (most important part) then at the end of the day, find a good spot to watch the sunset and journal about your day and feelings!! it feels better because you’ll be in less of a slump after a nice day and will have a lighter mood to be thinking about what’s up lastly… go home and do a full shower, do the most relaxing possible version of your nightly routine (and no scrolling social media). if you can, wash your sheets a day or two before and put on a fresh set of PJs that night too… it makes crawling into bed that much better (also bonus points if you meditate before you fall asleep) i find this (one-day vacation? 12 hr solo date?) is a really nice way to reset my brain when everything is overwhelming or i feel like i’m stuck not doing much besides going through the motions. i tend to do it every few weeks lately and it is surprisingly refreshing ✨

It's actually so hard to find time for yourself to rest and catch up on refilling your cup(chore, self care) Every weekend there's something with a friend I haven't seen in a while, a friend who is going away, an event that I really wanted to go. How do I balance my life with a stupid 9-5 in the current state of the world as well lol
