I am a rec center evangelist - my mom is an avid swimmer so my sister and I spent our youth at the jungle gym, ping pong tables, and outdoor pool at the Tennis and Swim center in our neighborhood. We were raised in the women's locker room, seeing bodies at all ages and stages, and that was the *healthiest* part of growing up in the valley. Now, I live walking distance from the best rec center in the city and take classes there 3-5 times a week. I just discovered this class called Nia that's basically modern dance but martial arts inspired (?!) and my friends and I gather at the outdoor pool in the summers and my sister meets me every Saturday morning for Zumba and I've found a magical yin yoga class that has drastically increased my flexibility and I do all of this for the annual price of $200...have I converted you yet?

Been going to water exercise classes and loving them. I am always the youngest person there by several decades and the music rocks. You get SUCH a good work out in, I swear itโ€™s like reformer pilates but way cheaper. It doesnโ€™t hurt your joints. You get stretched and pulled. Afterwards you soak in the hot tub with the old gals and gab

Took me a while to settle on a gym in the neighborhood after moving. I started out at Blink which feels like a mistake in hindsight. The equipment at the Y is new (cardio equipment has wireless chargers, which, as a girl with perpetually dead devices, is a major perk) the weight room may be small but itโ€™s manageable imo. Sauna and steam room really sold me. Might start going to the adult ballet classes

Back in the day (aka like 4 years ago), I used to wake up early on Sunday mornings to lifeguard the Aqua Tai chi class at the Indianapolis JCC for a ripe $12/hr. I hope i canโ€™t get in trouble for this now but i must admit that I occasionally fell asleep while i ought to have been diligently at my post. It was sooo warm in there, and the instructor would put on this nice flute meditation music, so there was really no way I was gonna make it out of that pool as a star employee. Anyways, I have to take a PE class now to graduate college, and I have had the delight of taking Tai chi this semester (inspired, of course, by that very JCC Aqua Tai chi class). Itโ€™s a physical and mental meditation, but also a fr workout. Some things I think it helps with: balance, flexibility, bodily awareness, reflexes, mindfulness. Also, low-impact and modifiable to suit different levels of mobility, meaning it lends (or rather, suggests) itself well to long term practice ๐Ÿ˜Œ

Pick a ridiculous amount of sour cherries and share them with all of your friends (you may even get smoked fish in return)
