If you have a silhouette that makes you feel comfortable, try experimenting within that silhouette. Add a cool jacket or sweater. Experiment with shoes. Accessorize with scarves or hats (i have a tiny scarf addiction). Once you find accessories that you love, you can carry them over into outfits that are further outside your comfort zone. If you're wearing something you would normally never wear, but you are also wearing your favorite bandana/hat/jacket/shoes, it's easier to feel like yourself.

spending the time picking out which accessories to add to an outfit + actually wearing little things that makes me feel more pulled together! it’s easy to throw on a shirt and jeans without really thinking about it, but picking out jewelry, a hat, a scarf, sunglasses, hair clips/bows, etc makes me feel so much more in-the-zone. bonus points bc it’s fun and can make a good outfit even better!

Costume jewelry or belts or hats or whatever, accessories really work in upgrading a basic outfit, and you can switch it up pretty easily with a small budget.

having a thing you are known for is incredibly chic. can be anything really. perhaps how you answer the phone, an accessory you wear, a scent you have been wearing for years, a pair of glasses frames, one very cool vintage jacket, cowboy boots, always carrying a book in your purse, a nail or lip color, a go-to order at the bar or coffeeshop. find your thing, and make it yours. wear it everyday or every season. i got into wearing cute little scarves around my neck, and have been especially enamored with this secondhand silk scarf i picked up at BOOK OFF in Tokyo last March. i feel so happy, cool, chic, and put together when i wear it. it’s very me, all year round.

1. coax cat onto lap 2. clear mind of everything but cat 3. breathe in for 2 purrs and out for 2 purrs 4. continue until cat moves this is both incredibly peaceful and helpful if your cat wants attention whenever you try to meditate
