make a financial plan. calculate and minimize your expenses to understand how long you can last comfortably with the money you have now. ask yourself — what if i can’t find a job for 3 months? 6 months? a year? it doesn’t have to be concrete, but having an idea of what you will do in these situations can make it a lot less stressful. as those dates come closer, iron out your plans and make sure you are following them. if something isn’t working, go back to the drawing board and try again. take a look at and polish up your resume — do you have the experience, skills, certifications, and/or portfolio to get a new job in the market? if not, do what you can to build your portfolio and get certified within your budget. make an app or tool using technologies or frameworks that are in demand and put it on your resume. do some open source contributions. aim to get certifications for tools/technologies you are seeing a lot on the jobs you are applying for. the important thing here is to start preparing now and be ready for almost anything that could happen within reasonable expectations. being fully honest the job market for IT sucks right now but having this stuff in mind and executing it correctly will put you ahead of many other candidates. i was in a similar situation a few months ago, and having this sort of plan made me so much less stressed switching jobs. wishing the best for you

I did and am glad that I did. The education and my career are enjoyble to me. The worst prt for me was looking for the job and getting hired. I am in an industry where it is not uncommon for interviews to be 3+ rounds and i am not very good at interviews. My advice would be to plan it out and have a support system and ideally some money or somewhere low cost to live or whatever bc it may take longer than you anticipate to land a role. Looking for a job is a full time job.

The job market is not good right now. If you have savings or can gig work while you search then leaving is an option. If you don't then I would say try to white-knuckle your way through.

i hate knowing that even though i got a promotion a few weeks ago, i still may lose my job in the span of a month. i hate how it feels like i need to learn new programming languages every week in order to stand out. even though i am adaptable, i still don’t know ruby on rails. i hate how certifications that they don’t tell you about in school open doors for so many more opportunities, yet these certs take a lot of time and hundreds of dollars out your bank account. then half the time you don’t even pass the test and have to take it over again. i hate how AI pretty much screwed up all of our careers because companies want AI solutions for everything under the sun to stay relevant. i hate how it’s told to me that clients want low-code and no code solutions, when that just means you want all your apps to look the same and have a single point of failure when the company who makes the low code product screws up. overall, i hate how it feels like things keep crashing down on me one by one in the last few weeks. and it feels like im just catching air when it’s possible. i feel like i should pray right now, but being agnostic and doing that sounds weird.

i feel like so many times when i’ve gotten disheartened or uncomfortable when trying/learning something new or encountering an unexpected situation, ive just mindlessly strayed away. the reality is they were opportunities for growth and i neglected to think twice about it
