Itā€™s hanging in a central lobby on the ground floor of the royal marsden hospital in Kensington, behind a grand piano with a vase of flowers on perpetual rotation. A staircase covers three of the four walls, the staircase is solid and so the steps on it always sound very gentle and there is surprisingly a lot of distant laughter heard from there. Meditated over this painting a lot while waiting for my sister to receive treatment and while she was in surgery. It doesnā€™t take long at all to really feel like the painting sees you and hears your thoughts. I let a lot out on this lady. It isnā€™t just a painting of princess diana, itā€™s my friend.

@BRENDANOOOOO whoever put it there is a genius because itā€™s on a rare cancers wards and hospitals are usually so unpleasant and sterile that it actually completely disorients you to see a grand piano and a portrait of princess Diana that it kind of reduces the fact youā€™re on a cancer ward waiting for a loved one. Tried to set the scene because the painting on its own actually looks kind of goofy and I remember finding it goofy when I first saw it but actually itā€™s a familiar face and the cloudy day and if you actually really imagine intently thinking a message to her, she really looks sympathetic lol. Sorry to be insane about a very unspectacular painting but itā€™s so incredibly genius to moi.

I love this painting so much. It reminds me of my niece when she was a tiny baby, and my family and I would all try to make her smile šŸ’œ I also love how expressive the women are painted, like the one smiling so wide you see her gums. My niece smiles exactly like the baby too.

I have a print of this in my bedroom that was my motherā€™s and used to sit in my parentsā€˜ fireplace in their bedroom when I was little. I find it especially poignant because her print is only a section of the painting that includes the mother and child, and my mother never got to grow old and become the final age. Sometimes the old woman in this painting is interpreted as the remembrance of death, so it not being in her print feels fitting for my mother who so desperately wanted to live to be with her children. it was her birthday yesterday so I felt I had to include it. I also find it meaningful in a way I canā€™t describe that the only other painting I inherited from her was John William waterhouseā€™ The Lady of Shallot, another of my favourites, which is also a woman dying.

Her work is otherworldly and glamorous and Iā€™m constantly inspired by it. The fact that she, one of the most influential surrealists of the 20th century, is commonly remembered only as Picassoā€™s mistress and the subject of the weeping woman haunts me

Any man, any task. Iā€™m sure there are other ways to strengthen your relationships with men but this is the easiest Iā€™ve found and my method also gets a task done. Ask your dad to build shelves, ask some guy on your street to mow your lawn, ask your friend to collect a parcel for you, ask your brother to hang a picture frame. So many tasks get done and so many men feel needed and appreciated. Could offer them a beer to make it transactional but itā€™s almost never necessary.

They're delicious and silent and unscented. They sell so many foods at the cinema but never berries.
