Any man, any task. I’m sure there are other ways to strengthen your relationships with men but this is the easiest I’ve found and my method also gets a task done. Ask your dad to build shelves, ask some guy on your street to mow your lawn, ask your friend to collect a parcel for you, ask your brother to hang a picture frame. So many tasks get done and so many men feel needed and appreciated. Could offer them a beer to make it transactional but it’s almost never necessary.

As a guy I suffer from some toxic traits and I feel like I'm "less of a man" if I don't know how to hang shelves. So if you don't ask me to hang a shelf for you what am I good for?!??

Where do you find these men that want to do tasks? I’ve learned to just do it myself because none are up for any tasking

no this is it!!! women like being asked to do tasks too but it seems like a dude will always love doing a wordless Act Of Service for ya

babyoblivi0n True! I think the main difference is men struggle more with expressing their feelings so this is a really easy way for them to show care lol. One of the most accessible love languages with the least chance of getting it wrong. It’s so cute to me.

In my experience if I do a task that doesn’t qualify as an expression but for men I feel like it usually does. Inversely I also don’t think men receive my acts of service as an expression lol
Mar 5, 2025

soft yes exactly. by that logic anyone who has trouble expressing their emotions could benefit from being given a little task!

this is very true! And it’s something the modern man and family has lost a sense of. The man used to be the provider of the family physically as well as monetarily! And he still ought to be.
Mar 5, 2025
image
joshuac you think men should still always be the ones providing for their families monetarily?
Mar 5, 2025
image
joshuac or maybe we are redefining what it means to exist in this world as individuals in community with each other as we examine system structures that haven't given us all equitable opportunities. We are in a major transition in our relationship dynamics and roles with the dawn of instant information.

dreamydoodledoo marxinista hello guys! I would really not like to start a debate in the pi.fyi comments section. But if you’re purely asking for my opinion, I think it’s such a beautiful thing for a man to be able to provide for his family, whilst his wife does something of equal (and arguably more) importance: raising posterity well—a challenge more difficult than we know. Similar to how Cephalus tells Socrates in the Republic that inherited wealth is better than earned wealth (this is Ancient Greek reasoning, not necessarily modern) because it allows a person to study arts of politics, philosophy, and justice which do not make money on their own, without having to worry about learning the art of making money. When a man provides monetarily for his family, the mother, being in my opinion more naturally inclined towards relationship and caring for the children than men, is able to devote her time to raising the children in virtue and love. that was quite a wall of text wasn’t it. I hope I’ve provided some insight into why I think the way I do 😁

@JOSHUAC not trying to start a debate was genuinely curious what you meant! however i regret to inform you that that is all very bioessentialist language — (cis) women and men are not innately better at either raising children or having a career. surely you’ve met many successful, healthy people whose parents had the opposite arrangement? and, quite frankly, if (in a heterosexual relationship) a man is not equally adept at/prepared for caring for children than his wife, he should not become a parent… 🤷🏻‍♀️ some food for thought

I google image searched “man doing a task” and every single photo was a man out of his depth at a laptop. Put them 2 work! Our men need manual labour based activities.

These dudes work so hard, and even though they can never figure out how to buzz my apartment or get to my apartment if they have figured the other part out, they’re just dudes who are trying to make a buck. Making a demonstrated effort to give them a smile and some positive energy makes them feel happy. Most of these guys barely speak English and it means a lot to make them know they’re doing something useful. And they are. These dudes bring more practical value to society than bankers. They are the unsung heroes of the post-capitalism laze-craze economy.
