I don't try harder at work than I did at school for the money- if they had paid me in school I'd probably still have skipped constantly. I'm not really sure why. Maybe it's because I can actually get fired from my job for not doing the basic tasks and showing up, so it's more scary, bigger consequences? I also felt very stuck in school, I would get distracted so easily and just not be interested in the subject at all. And of course when I was actually interested, I would struggle to complete the technical parts- the homework, tests, and the such. Now that I have the choice to be in College or to be working, I feel more confident in myself and my ability to get tasks done. However, I still feel undereducated- I skipped a lot of my classes, and the ones that I didn't, I haven't retained any information from them. I still don't know how to do basic division, I couldn't point out where half the states are on the map, and I couldn't tell you who any of the early presidents were other than Lincoln and Washington. I feel incompetent and frankly disrespectful towards others for not knowing these basic skills, but now that I'm working as a manager six days a week, I just don't have time to learn. I'm exhausted by the end of the day and really only have the energy to take a shower and go straight to bed. I'm only 19 which gives me some consolation that I have time, but considering what's happening in the world now, I wish I had more knowledge in current and past issues. help! ahhh

i loved & miss university, it really helped me figure out some things i was passionate about, have some cool experiences & learn a lot about myself, plus i just love learning and being in school in general (i always say if i was rich enough to not work i'd spend all my money getting degrees for fun), but that being said.... i no longer work in said field nor do i have any interest to at all lol i feel like if you're going to go to college you need to be sure of your field and the possibilities that come from it, or at the very least, go into something broadly applicable and then do as many things as you can (related clubs, volunteering, competitions, whatever) that allow you to explore the field while there. i got a broad degree (comms) but then made the mistake of not exploring enough avenues while in school and wound up locked into one that i didn't like post-grad. tried to leverage my degree to break into fields i'd enjoy more, but with my focused background, it's unfortunately not enough.

like i know college is supposed to be hard but my goodness this is a bit bonkers. i was explaining to my friend how much i have to do before the end of the semeste, and she said “why would you put yourself through that?” but like…what else am i supposed to do? i don’t know another way! if my professor says write a paper for next week, im writing the paper🤷🏾‍♀️it’s not my choice to write the paper but it is my choice to do well in school. and everything else that’s piled on me is my choice too. two jobs because school is expensive and rent is expensive and groceries are expensive. and any side project/relevant experience i can get my hands on bc i feel so underprepare. and despite allllll that…i still feel so behind. i feel like no matter what or how much i do, im not doing enough or im not doing the right thing. and i’m just exhausted

It’s weird because you’re told that you’re smart, in gifted and talented classes, praised but only when you do well in your studies. Your desire to feel praise and love from your parents leads you down to study the sciences even though you really wanted to study geography at university. covid hits the year you graduate and it’s hard to find a job! a good 2/3 years pass of fruitless attempts to find a job in the scientific field. so you go and study for your Masters in Oncoimmunology hoping it’ll be enough academic experience to land you an entry job but it’s not and no one cares that you studied hard and no one care that you love your area of research. it’s a tough market atp i just wanna be a home maker so I can play video games all day and hire a cleaner. Ive been feeling sososo dejected recently from applying to jobs, have a first class masters but no experience so no one wants to hire you? like damn bitch come teach me??? ME???

- a writer - an actress - a photographer - a director - a fashion designer I wanted desperately to move out and had a weird dream of working in a record store I'm a puppeteer now, which I feel encompasses a lot of what I wanted to be, working my way up to a lead position right now. I did move out, but couldn't handle it and moved back with my dad, and I feel like I've failed to live up to my childhood dreams in a sense. Might move out again soon if I get this lead position (pleasepleaseplease)
