The dream syndicate, “tell me when it’s over”

There aren’t many bands or songs out there you can point to and say “this changed my life” but this band and song did. It contains one of the dirtiest guitar licks ever recorded, an earworm of melody and noise. They helped me discover the Velvet Underground 🍌(and kick-started the so-called Paisley Underground movement that gave birth to the Bangles among others). My band could even play this song and it sounded BOSS (not every cover did, ha). So simple anyone could play it; but only THEY could write it. Ex-girlfriend - no doubt

Legit was the first song I can recall actually caring about and being amazed by. I was OBSESSED with this song and video. Had no idea what it was about (never been a lyrics person, more of a feel and sound person) but I just loved the sound and vocals. Probably why I listen to alotta music that is women lead or has women at the forefront when it comes to vocals. Big ass No Doubt fan to this day too.

Crush by ethel cain

I really love this song! My first roommate, Will, showed me this song freshman year of college. I was very resistant to it. He also showed me Charli XCX’s self titled album as it was released while we were rooming together. Also resistant. I didn’t understand either of the artists at the time. But in retrospect, I’m very glad I had him as a roommate to show me the proper way to be gay. I now love both of the aforementioned artists. Thank you, Will. :)

Graduating with a b.a. in english

bc it’s what I originally wanted when I first went to college at 17 but I was scared to make writing my job and got a B.S. in Nutrition instead lol Now the goal is an eventual PhD in Victorian Literature but I’m just happy to have made it through this part at 32!
