anyone on pi.fyi will likely feel seen and heard when reading this. it basically accentuates all the redundancies and senseless aspects of social media and how itâs disrupted every industry and how we are all dominated by the algorithm and have to be our own hype person. i always feel like an idiot after i finish a record or a book that i'm really excited to share with the world, but then have to think about âcontentâ to promote the art itself. obviously pi.fyi feels likes a refreshing beacon of hope because artists can share their work here in a far more simple and wholesome manner. the article also addresses non-creative jobs like accountants and other professions that are all being forced to become an âinfluencerâ of some sort or build a brand. itâs spooky, yet weâre all feeling the fatigue so hopefully we can see a less algorithmic future soonâŠ

My #official take is that AI art generally on the whole fucking sucks. 90% of it is uninteresting slop content by brain dead techbros who have no knowledge of art or why we value it.
HOWEVER!!! There is one use case where I think using AI in your art can actually elevate the work, and thatâs if the art itself is in some way trying to say something about AI.
Luckily, thereâs actually a lot of things to say about AI â referencing it in your work pretty firmly places it in the current cultural landscape in super powerful way.
Some examples (note that these all have pretty nihilistic / downright dystopian outlooks on modern society, maybe thatâs also imporyant):

spent the last two weeks working on an interactive guide, recommendations database, and digital library (link depot) to help get people off of social media. the first draft is done now, and it's at the link to this post.
it's still very much a work in progress (the library is especially thin atm) - which is why i wanted to share it here before unleashing it upon my IRL friends and the general public. i welcome any and all feedback, bug reports, and suggestions for things to add. i will be pushing updates to it out like a madman in the coming weeks, so be sure to check back every so often to see new additions to the database and library.
additionally, i am still on the hunt for newsletters from local venues / community organizations / magazines / newspapers, etc. the only cities i have remotely covered so far are nyc, orlando, denver, brisbane, and little bits of worcester and chicago. if you know anything in your area that fits the bill, send it my way!
