Got into them a couple years ago and laid in my bed one too many times imagining scenarios of me in Australia (never been) where my musician BF played me one of his songs off this album.. Motel, Egg Beater are among my favorites from an album which contains tracks that are comparably brilliant in their ability to place me at ease. I listen to it occasionally when I want to be transported back in time, and though I do this with roughly 55% of what I consume, I think this album is especially good at it :)

I know this album cover is imprinted into the corneas of many already. but I’m listening to this ~8 yrs after I first found it, which sort of marked the start of my own self-discovery w music (along with, who else, but velvet underground). and since they are both so huge, I’ve had a hard time listening to them as earnestly in years since. of course relationships with music change, but I think I became embarrassed by the earnestness of this album & its internet overexposure. but it is sincere and beautiful (+ a little freaky and smutty) and it is very special to come back to every now and then. it turns on a certain part of my soul I can’t usually access when I come to it at the right moment. full of love and oneness w humanity, time transcendent “let us lay in the sun and count every beautiful thing we can see”

A friend showed me this album 10 years ago and I don't think I’ve had a bout of depression since that I haven't walked around and listened to it in its entirety. But it kind of morphs depending on your mood. It also is a beautiful album for a summer drive. This is like mazzy star bossa nova. For years I thought it was considered a classic orchestral pop album on par with Pet Sounds or What's Going On or any other late 60s album with an emphasis on arrangement, but there's not much info about it online. On Reddit it’s just a couple people talking about how they like the album cover but don’t care for the album. Anyways, I definitely will be adding a few of these songs to my funeral playlist. But don’t wait until I’m dead.

This band means so much to me. Evan Weiss is somehow always genuine but never precious, always smart but never pretentious. I have come back to his catalogue so much over the last decade plus. I remember staring into space on the second story balcony of my first apartment listening to Standards. My now 11 yo was 2 and asleep in the other room. I was a newish dad which isn't really important to loving into it over it but at that time I daydreamed a lot and this band makes me feel like I am going to learn from every mistake. So drink responsibly.

Grew up with Crash Course and John Green books and of course when I found out they have a podcast I have not stopped listening to it! Brilliant, funny, informative everything I love. Makes me introspective in a way that's different and more positive from how I usually am.

I went on a date recently and listened to this song the day of and now when I listen to it, it reminds of the wonderful night we had :) We are, I think the same person. But I won't get ahead of myself... I hope...
