A friend showed me this album 10 years ago and I don't think I’ve had a bout of depression since that I haven't walked around and listened to it in its entirety. But it kind of morphs depending on your mood. It also is a beautiful album for a summer drive. This is like mazzy star bossa nova. For years I thought it was considered a classic orchestral pop album on par with Pet Sounds or What's Going On or any other late 60s album with an emphasis on arrangement, but there's not much info about it online. On Reddit it’s just a couple people talking about how they like the album cover but don’t care for the album. Anyways, I definitely will be adding a few of these songs to my funeral playlist. But don’t wait until I’m dead.

I know this album cover is imprinted into the corneas of many already. but I’m listening to this ~8 yrs after I first found it, which sort of marked the start of my own self-discovery w music (along with, who else, but velvet underground). and since they are both so huge, I’ve had a hard time listening to them as earnestly in years since. of course relationships with music change, but I think I became embarrassed by the earnestness of this album & its internet overexposure. but it is sincere and beautiful (+ a little freaky and smutty) and it is very special to come back to every now and then. it turns on a certain part of my soul I can’t usually access when I come to it at the right moment. full of love and oneness w humanity, time transcendent ā€œlet us lay in the sun and count every beautiful thing we can seeā€

This album is like when you’re in the park on a summer day, a bit stoned, and everything seems to be pretty hazy. No one’s really following a conversation per se, and no one knows how long you’ve been sitting there for. One of four highly anticipated solo records from the Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young boys, released in I think ā€˜71. I dont know enough about CSNY to compare and contrast (except that I know Neil Young was never interested much in this kind of la-la-la’ing on his solo efforts). I like this record because it’s like insight into the mind of the last living Hippie, the true Hippie- snapshots and reel to reels from the end of the Love Decade. It sorta feels like Crosby’s standing there in the rain wondering what happened to everyone, when was it hip to get paranoid? Maybe we were lost in a flower dream the whole time! This is seriously easy listening- and I disagree with Lester Bangs who called it ā€œthe perfect aural aid to digestionā€- this is music to wander around to, to contemplate some things to, or just to zone out to.

even if you dont like 60s music, i recommend reading the lyrics slowly, especially Didn't We and If (The Biggest Little World)

I started watching this again recently after I found out my girlfriend thought it was a show (a la fear factor) where people try to survive in a shark tank. Last month I thought about starting a bath mat company after not being able to find a bath mat narrow enough to fit in my bathroom. Watching Shark Tank is a good reminder that just because I could start a bath mat company I probably don't want to.

I love this short film. I love the flatness of the collaged stop motion. This short film led Jim to make the ā€œAnd She Wasā€ music vid for Talking Heads. I like that one too. I really ripped him off for this Slow Pulp music video I made. His process seems to involve these extensive photo shoots to source all the pieces for his collage rather than flipping through National Geographic. I would love to try something like that.

Where else can you get a pot of tea and cake until 3 in the morning? Ugh, it’s awesome. They have a bunch of old chairs and artwork in there. When I’m in cafe Reggio I’m always like why isn’t every cafe like this? Why does every cafe look like a scandinavian wet dream? I want table service. I want coffee mugs. To go shouldn’t even be an option. To go where? You’re already here.
