What happens if PI.FYI were to have 100x as many users?
Right now it is a beautiful thing—I offer that as a newbie—notable in part for the sense of smallness and intimacy.
I'm wondering how the dynamic shifts if things get way bigger and what kind of tweaks will need to be made to both handle that growth and keep the spirit of things as they are now.
This is less of a suggestion and more of a rumination on what may be a future challenge...
One way to keep things tight: more granular tools, such as a post-by-post permissions options for comments.
The poster would be able to define who can reply to their Ask or comment on their Rec, maybe selecting from three options: Anyone, Pro only, Friends only.
(My Opinion: All Recs should always be public — but interaction permissions should be editable.)
The goal with this wouldn't be to shut out users for the sake of control but to keep the conversation manageable — getting a thousand comments on a rec would just be awful.

And it also makes sense that having access to post permissions settings and other settings should only be for Pro users. If that's the business model then it has to be incentivized.

i guess you don't HAVE to use a rec as a rec, but maybe have a third option other than rec and ask. maybe just call it thoughts? for when you have a thought or a feeling that you want to share but it isn't a recommendation.
maybe having an anti-rec option under recs, too! like a drop down when you do choose to make a rec, you can choose to anti-rec. make sense??
lastly, having changing your email/password built into the settings. i ran into this the other day when i put my email in wrong and had to get ahold of you guys!!

I posted this as a comment a bit ago and seems to be a shared sentiment.. how does the general pifi population feel about this?? Might be a way to boost Ask engagement

The app is glitchy, but is fun so far! Here are my asks:
right now: - working in text hyperlinks. - for some reason the underline text formatting doesn’t work properly for me. - the text box glitches a lot. I can only see 3-4 lines at a time and scrolling is difficult. There’s this weird white line that pops up over my keyboard and blocks my view. typing in general is really frustrating! - the app is eating my battery, worse than video apps I use. -would love to be able to add a password so I don’t have to sign in with a link every time . For some reason I do not have this option. - being able to group your pinned posts into different collections, like a highlight reel or playlist.
looking down the line: - maybe expanding the ability to tag ? it could get tricky, and I don’t think they should be expansive like they are on tumblr. but it’d be nice to click and follow tags for specific groups. maybe model tags off newspaper or magazine sections. style, lifestyle, news, music, film, misc online categories, etc. Having clearly defined categories, which are outlined in a how to use guide that pops up when you join, may help. - adding a TOS condition to prevent far right extremists and bigots from joining. you should absolutely consider someone’s offline speech before they join the online community you‘re building.
No thanks: -re-Rec with commentary: I don’t actually think this feature is necessary. I don’t want to see the same post again and again because a bunch of people replied with a gif or image. If I want to see or look for discourse or commentary, I will go to the comments section. i don’t think this feature is necessary or useful for this app.

this is worthy of celebration: the lack of video—autoplay video, noisy inane video, panicky video, algorithmic, dumb video, rabbit hole video, any video—on pi.fyi is a good thing

this is going to hurt — A LOT — but it's getting to the point where there's no other option
