i am working at this camp next to a catholic church and the things i have seen in the past few weeks are simply beyond… - large funeral procession including bagpipers, a hearse, pallbearers, occurring in front of the children. the kiddos were all doing camp things and in the background was just hundreds of people in black, funeral bagpipes, the whole production - food deliveries for the priests (?!): notables include lobster and an entire fucking pig (pictured) - creepy guys (not doing the catholic stereotypes any favors not sorry) - one man said he would run over the children if they didn’t get out of his way when he was—you may have guessed it—delivering food for the priests! another one went in the building, exited and went to his car, then came over to me with a ketchup bottle and squeezed it on me ! but surprise it was just one of those gag bottles that has red yarn instead of actual ketchup. he said the bit was “better than a cup of coffee in the morning” and that he “does it to his wife every day”

Trash bag curtains and cardboard furniture is actually insane. Couldn‘t be me. I grew up with boys so I seen some crazy shit in my day. The most boy room thing I’ve witnessed to my current recollection is my 19 year old brother collecting his boogers on a wall in his room. I deadass was so close to throwing up.

My sister & I went to the store the other day. She was looking to sell & donate some clothes of hers & I was just along for the ride. I looked over at her, dead serious, and said “O——, we’re both going to see something strange right now & theres nothing we can do about it”. She laughed & asked me what I meant & I just sort of repeated myself because that was all I had to say right then. We saw him instantly when we walked into the store. His left leg had a disease. It was engorged & thick & swollen. It was in a sort of brace— it looked like there were metal rods stabbing into his shin, stabbing into the bone. I think the wounds were just open. Were they wounds? I couldn’t really tell, I didn’t want to stare. How does stabbing someone in the leg with a metal rod help him? What sick freak doctor’s office did this poor schmuck limp into? I hope he’s ok & I hope his leg is ok. He seemed kind, he seemed like he knew that his leg had a magnetic effect on people. I bet you he’s. good husband and father. But sometimes It doesn’t matter who you are, your leg is going to become diseased & punctured. And sometimes you can speak things into reality if you truly believe. Try it sometime, you might see something weird.

my sister just had a baby and i am considering the type of aunt?/guncle ? (the designation becomes tricky w gender lol) i may be. but ultimately the archetype of “cool aunt”—mysterious, distant-yet-warm, uninvolved in family dramas, arrives at family gatherings wearing strange, somehow stylish clothes, bearing copious gifts and floating on an air of urban life—resonates most soundly with me this has also led me to reflect on how my mom’s sister played such a key role in my  youth by revealing to me a foundational truth that this is not all that there is! ‘twas a very hopeful message to me, a miserable child/teen unsuited to christian suburban life, forced to procure my wardrobe primarily from the women’s section at the department store because that is what my mother deemed reasonable (and kohl’s cash)  some of the notable moments my aunt bestowed upon my adolescence include: • taking me to see moonrise kingdom at the indie art deco theater in a nearby mountain town  • driving me to philly for shows at tla even though she had no idea who the artists were and would stand in the back; also paying for all my meals and whims on our south street jaunts • curating a collection of signed books from author visits at her local library, which she’d always drop off nonchalantly as gifts (charles santore picture books, lemony snicket !)  • signing me up for 5ks and carting me along to her races • explaining to me what a “lesbian” is and taking me to meet said lesbians in a dimly lit new york restaurant where i tried alligator sausage and felt so urbane  • general trips to ny for broadway shows and museums   • introducing me to rummikub • letting me roam free at community music festivals from late afternoon til dusk, where i’d encounter children from different counties, get in harmless trouble and infuse my life with the intrigue of those unknown to me but in those brief moments
