I have honestly never had more fun at a show than at Faux Real‘s show last month and since then they‘ve been living rent free in the air head bnb of my mind.
think an alt pop Gen Z Backstreet Boys meets all of your favourite 80s film montage sequences crossed with the are they going to fuck or kill each other intensity of their dance routines and you’re part of the way there.

if you walked into my room at any given time between ages 12-16, this was 1000% on my screen. or ahs murder house. thats not an exaggeration: this stupid little film was my way of life for years and years and years, my comfort watch.
its a classic that every emo kid has seen, surely, but i am certain that no sane human could possibly NOT respect/enjoy it even if you arent emo/never fw them.
a concert divided into two acts with a full fucking circus on tour with them. full burlesque dancer breaks and an intermission. most impressive of all? bassist (jon) is the oldest in this clip at like 21 i think? brendon urie was 18, ryan ross 19, spencer 16.
so brilliant it blows my mind every time

i saw and photographed the all american rejects in someone’s backyard tonight. i haven’t experienced energy like that anywhere else. other bands need to start taking notes!!! no better way to get people talking about you!
it felt like it was 2008 and we were all at the end of some coming of age movie. i am going to think about this night a lot.

im Thinking mainly of Summer Break here. I woke up whenever I wanted to after a late night of watching cartoon networks adult swim which was pretty much just sexy anime back then interspersed with some music news and vibes. I drank a fuck ton of Coke Gold which I never see anymore but it‘s the caffeine free version. I had keys to my apartment but no money so I’d take a walk and then come back home and watch more tv or draw and listen to my cd’s. I used my lunch money during the year to buy cds every other week from Best Buy or virgin records which was definitely the coolest it could have been in the early 2000’s - everything was red lighting and industrial steel and the Distiller’s first cd was $7. my parents sent me off to hang with some of their friends parents out of state and they let me have free reign over their golf cart and I’d drive around in it all day blasting NOFX and Crazytown and Alkaline Trio - definitely the reason all the boys wanted to hang on my golf cart that summer was the fact that I brought my battery operated boom box with me everywhere. The girls followed on their own carts and decided they didn’t like me even tho I always asked them to come hang. When I got an older (2006?) and had more money I started getting loosies and beers at the corner store and would smoke and drink in the park with my friends and no one ever said anything to us. we snuck into MGMT in the park and did drugs under the trees and danced with glitter on our faces and stupid string bands around our foreheads. There was this community garden in the East Village we went to a lot that had chickens in it so we called it Cock Park - they had a tree house we’d drink 40’s in and cackle until the park closed, then we’d move to the church yard. I can’t stress enough how many underground music venues there were - none of them carded, all were illegal and all served jungle juice out of coolers. we got Fucked up, dude. And the best of all was the fuckin house party. Someone’s rich parents were always out of town and we little assholes would swarm their teenager occupied brownstone like little monsters. Lots of drinking and drugs and sex all over the place. i Feel bad for the kids who had to clean their houses in the morning all hungover and stressing out.
But yeah, it was cool.

Does anyone else keep memory boxes?
These are old shoe boxes full of keep sakes which could be as silly as receipts from a holiday, letters from old friends, gig tickets, set lists from memorable shows, photos etc
I have quite a few of them now and am aware that if I keep on going like this, I’ll probably have an entire room full of boxes of these objects that possess a sentimental value. But will that be practical?
So I came up with an idea, an archival undertaking of sorts called ’Debris Of a Life’, where I whittle down my boxes to just one box to rule them all and with the keepsakes that don’t make the cut being scanned and documented via a zine. I’d imagine this could end up being a few volumes worth of material but there is something that has really caught my imagination with this style of scrapbooking being presented in my most favourite of all formats; the zine. I will post more about this idea as it develops.

Don’t you think that PI FYI is a bit like Wendy Cope’s poem The Orange if it was a social media platform? Everyone sharing and recommending the things that bring them meaning and joy in life. It’s so wholesome.
It’s been a minute but I have some time off this weekend so I will likely indulge some more of my thoughts and recs for the benefit of journaling.

Tell me about the dream where we pull the bodies out of the lake                                                                   and dress them in warm clothes again.        How it was late, and no one could sleep, the horses running until they forget that they are horses.               It’s not like a tree where the roots have to end somewhere,        it’s more like a song on a policeman’s radio,                     how we rolled up the carpet so we could dance, and the days were bright red, and every time we kissed there was another apple                                                                                                   to slice into pieces. Look at the light through the windowpane. That means it’s noon, that means        we’re inconsolable.                                             Tell me how all this, and love too, will ruin us. These, our bodies, possessed by light.                                                                          Tell me we’ll never get used to it.
