Close, 2022: 10/10. A steady, gentle flow of tears throughout this entire movie. Most of the time because my heart was breaking, and some of the time because it was so beautiful. If you struggle with chronic guilt and shame, be careful with this one. Problemista, 2024: 100000/10 Had a deep, cathartic sob starting about 4/5ths of the way through the movie and lasted through the credits. Cried so hard Jose had to carry me out the theater. Cried because it reminded me what it means to be human, how it feels to have a dream, and how difficult it can be to exist in the world. Am I Okay?, 2024: 5/10. I really really wanted to like this one. Going into it knowing it was a coming out/coming of age I expected to cry, but I only felt a little teary during a montage of Dakota Johnson’s character “coming into herself,” and that might have only been because she’s so skinny and bangs look so good on her. The Holdovers, 2023: 8/10. Loved. Cried every time Da’Vine Joy Randolph did anything. What a performance. To be fair, I watched the Oscars and her acceptance speech before seeing this one and wept like she was my own daughter (I was so proud of her and all her hard work,) so that may have influenced my experience of the movie. Overall, a thoughtful exploration of people in pain. Definitely some misty moments.

let me break it down… Anthology 10 dollars a lot of lesser known avant garde films mixed in with art/foreign films. most things are also projected on film. really good place if your looking for something different. Moma is like 10 dollars too but if you’re a student you can get a free entry ticket which allows for a free movie ticket you just have to ask the desk. Moma has alot of stuff on film also and is always putting up classics And retrospectives on filmmakers Momi is also 10 and has a ton of cool 35mm more mainstream films always playing such as kubrick or Micheal mann.museum’s section is also cute especially if you like the muppets. Lincon center is a good place to go see indies/foreign movies that have come out recently also around 10 dollars also do some retrospectives remasters and 35mm screenings Spectacle is a community run Brooklyn theater that is one room and plays obscure cinema very fun place to go out to with friends and see something different. Roxy has some good 35mm screenings good date place to take someone.very comfy inside this fancy hotel downside is little more expensive but overall one of the better theater experiences in New York. Warning hipster central however 😭

i became an AMC Stubs™️ member about two years ago. every time i go, i have a ritual of taking a selfie in the full-length bathroom mirror and adding it to a folder called “because here, they are” (a quote from the Nicole Kidman pledge of allegiance). what i love about this practice / project is that it transforms the seemingly mundane activity of going to the movies, often alone, into a tool for tracking the passage of time. and what is a movie, if not a capsule of time passed, captured in light and color.
