i write down all the new-to-me words i encounter while reading and turn them into digital index cards. i've also been realizing lately that there's a lot of words i don't actually know the meanings of despite being familiar with them. those go in the cards too.

Do you also write down the definition? I’ve been doing this in my notes app but writing them seems better for retention!

maxwelljames on the index cards yes! i was doing the same thing, putting them in notes app without definitions, and it was good for keeping track but i didn't remember what any of them meant

gab love the handwriting route.. i put my words in notes app and make them into index cards when im done reading, but even picking up my phone to go to notes really takes me out of reading for a min. might give this a try!

I recently started a journal just for words i dont know while reading. i note the word and write down it’s definition. Found my new favorite word this way (assiduous)!

I started writing new words i come across or words i feel like ive known forever but don’t feel like i know their full meaning in the back of my planner. I think i’m getting back into the practice of being more careful with my words. It’s not in a way that’s restrictive or suffocating but more so in a way that’s playful and fun :3 It usually leads me to more questions to google around and figure out or get lost in. Like i love the kind of diagrams like this Coastal Landforms one that showed up when I was trying to figure out what a ā€œgloupā€ was. sometimes i can’t read my own handwriting though :/.

When I am being the best to myself (and therefore being intellectually curious), I keep a note on my phone updated with words I run into that are new to me, along with a definition that I reword myself in order to facilitate memorization. Finding a good way to do this while reading that does not involve opening up the Pandora's Box of a smartphone, however...

Even if you think you know a word. I do this all the time when I am reading and writing. I do it to double check that I am using a word in the right context, or to double check that I want to use this word in this context. Maybe by looking up the definition I will see a synonym that I like better. Or maybe I’ll learn a new definition / alternate use for that word. I make myself mini dictionaries in my journal and my notes app

i was never anti outfit repeating necessarily, but i would think about how recently i wore an article/ensemble or where i wore it, who saw it etc. lately i’ve been rewearing outfits that make me look and feel good without thinking too hard about it and like… i look and feel good
