Miho Hatori and Yuka Honda formed Cibo Matto in 1994 and released their major label debut "Viva! La Woman" in 1996. "Know Your Chicken," "Apple," "Birthday Cake," βBeef Jerkyβ and "Sugar Water" were all food-related tunes that funked as hard as anything of that mid-90s era. I loved this band SO MUCH and saw them open for Beck on his "Odelay" tour; they were a revelation. More people need to rediscover these two -- great songs, bent sense of humor, the whole Shibuya-kei vibe -- what's not to love?
