Miho Hatori and Yuka Honda formed Cibo Matto in 1994 and released their major label debut "Viva! La Woman" in 1996. "Know Your Chicken," "Apple," "Birthday Cake," “Beef Jerky” and "Sugar Water" were all food-related tunes that funked as hard as anything of that mid-90s era. I loved this band SO MUCH and saw them open for Beck on his "Odelay" tour; they were a revelation. More people need to rediscover these two -- great songs, bent sense of humor, the whole Shibuya-kei vibe -- what's not to love?

Shibuya-kei album from the 90s. Insanely cool, whimsical, and groovy. If you're a fan of the Japanese sub-genre of Shibuya-kei or just intrested in listening to some new music, I highly recommend it. Includes lots of sampling and takes inspiration from the Beach Boys, hip-hop, rock, chiptune, and a plethora of other musical genres. My favorite tracks on it are Mic Check and Count Five or Six.
This album is a masterpiece! P.S. Fun fact: Cornelius' stage name comes from the Planet of the Apes character, Cornelius. His real name is Keigo Oyamada, one half of Flipper's Guitar.

"Sad songs about happy things" (the first time, as a kid, I can recall the sweet/sour combo of melodies that could make you cry attached to songs about endless, bottomless love)
I've long since lost track of how many weddings and funerals I've attended that have featured this song; suffice it to say, "a lot."
