"Tin to Table" by Anna Hezel made me rethink how I use tinned fish/seafood. i had a lot of reservations about tinned fish because i thought i was limited to just eating the fish straight out of the can... but taking the food and cooking it with other ingredients has got me really excited about eating seafood and it makes it really easy to incorporate into my homemade recipes! last week Vatsal and I made the most delicious pasta with some tinned clams and i have thought about it nearly every day since.

I spent most of my life thinking they were cat food at best. But I visited Clydes one day for bivalves and martinis and tried their new conservas menu. Now I am watching tinned fish reviews and eating all kinds of sardines.

I grew up making fun of my dad for always packing fishy smelly things in his work lunch like tuna, sardines, deviled ham, etc. But last time I was at the local Aldi, I took a gamble on some cheaply priced canned fish items. Lo and behold... the 'dines (pronounced "deens") were goddamn delicious. I used a video aid (pictured) to make sure I was doing it correctly. I also tried some canned smoked oysters, which were equally great. I feel this kind of character development is so very important for people of all ages. If you're looking to get into the greater canned fish fandom, I highly recommend "Canned Fish Files w/ Matthew Carlson" on YouTube: https://youtube.com/@cannedfishfiles

I've been aggressively marketed Fishwife brand tinned fish, but I don't really feel like paying the $30 for three tins and then waiting for shipping. So the other week, my girlfriend and I went to Whole Foods to buy various tins of other, less fancy tinned fish. Whole Foods is pretty fancy as it is, so it may seem counter-intuitive that we went there to spend money on cheaper tinned fish, but all of our other area grocery stores basically only sell canned tuna. Anyway, I got some tinned mussels there and I liked them a lot. I ate them with some toasted bread and it made me feel not unlike a house cat. I would recommend it to anyone who would also like to feel like a house cat. Shouldn't we all be more like house cats?

quilting a blanket or a jacket? intimidating. thrifting a 2 hour mini quilting project book and finding over 75 mini patterns to create cute little quilts to potentially turn into totes or mini tapestries to hang in your room? still intimidating but i think we can all agree it's significantly less scary than the first option. i thought it would be much harder than it is but cutting little shapes out of scrap fabric and sewing them on has made me feel like a little kid in art class in elementary school in the best way. and a bonus is i found all the scrap fabric in every color i needed at Seattle ReCreative, a thrift store for craft supplies, for $3!!! i'm currently working on the Pine Tree Retreat pattern!
