Sometimes it’s just fun to scribble without thinking and see where your mind takes you. I’ve never been one to really focus on how I’m drawing or what my thought process is, and it leads to the weirdest little creations on a piece of paper. The second one was my attempt at a realistic piece, but I tend to gravitate more towards just letting my hand do the work, and not thinking of what I’m doing in the moment. I have hundreds of sheets of just random, unfinished thoughts and representation of what my conscious guides me to do on paper. No matter how ā€œgoodā€ or ā€œbadā€ a piece of art is, it’s still art, and it is still something to admire. :p

If you are making art for yourself, you are playing, not working. I like to really lean into this and do something completely unstructured either as a warm up or as a break while I’m working on a project. I like to do what I call ā€œshit canvasesā€ where I use up old supplies and garbage and what not. I layer things onto the canvas, building up some parts as I go, covering parts I don’t care about as much, maybe even ripping things off of it. I also so something on a smaller scale in my journal. Maybe I’ll start with a scribbled rant, or writing a few phrases down, and then I start to cover it with more words, or stickers, or I paint a little thing, or a sticky note, then more paint, then take the sticky note off. I have no end goal in mind, I’m just playing and seeing how things work together. Make yourself let loose

Writing… Ideas…
One minute it flows out of you wildly - forcefully vomited thoughts that can’t be contained so they must be spilled. Ink to paper, notes app paragraphs.
Other times it can feel like beating your head against a wall repeatedly and still never breaking through to the other side - blood trickling down your forehead and all.
I truly don’t think there is any solution for this. Whatever your creative pursuit, the process will always feel painstaking until miraculously one day it doesn’t.
Unfortunately you don't get to choose when inspiration hits you like an tonne of bricks and before you know it the feeling is long gone.
Sometimes I like to write all my thoughts down in a stream of consciousness. It doesn't have to make any sense, and it usually doesn’t.
If you’re lucky you may find something in that chain of unfiltered thoughts that makes a lot of sense when recontextualized.
Be messy, because you’re never going to be perfect. It doesn’t always work out, but what else are you going to do about it?
Just write.

Went up to a beautiful mountain the other day. Hiked up part of the ridge and then realized how out of shape I amšŸ˜…. Beautiful place though, and the water was electric blue.
