Writing… Ideas… One minute it flows out of you wildly - forcefully vomited thoughts that can’t be contained so they must be spilled. Ink to paper, notes app paragraphs. Other times it can feel like beating your head against a wall repeatedly and still never breaking through to the other side - blood trickling down your forehead and all. I truly don’t think there is any solution for this. Whatever your creative pursuit, the process will always feel painstaking until miraculously one day it doesn’t. Unfortunately you don't get to choose when inspiration hits you like an tonne of bricks and before you know it the feeling is long gone. Sometimes I like to write all my thoughts down in a stream of consciousness. It doesn't have to make any sense, and it usually doesn’t. If you’re lucky you may find something in that chain of unfiltered thoughts that makes a lot of sense when recontextualized. Be messy, because you’re never going to be perfect. It doesn’t always work out, but what else are you going to do about it? Just write.

Not every idea is a good idea. But maybe a small part of it is, or maybe it can grow into one, or maybe it will lead to the next good idea, or maybe you just need to get all those lousy ideas out of the way so the good ones have room to breathe. Or maybe it just feels good to write and this fixation on good vs bad ideas is the thing that’s in the way.

I write lyrics/poems/prose/essays/the occasional substack/text based art/performance art and the most successful process I've found works for me is just 'hold a pen and hope that it happens'. I can't get any real ideas done on a laptop (my substacks are all drafted in bullet points by hand first). I don't write every day because I don't have the energy or time or enough that is important to say. I only write when I really get the urge in my fingertips and then I get my notebook and just open the page and get whatever out I can. Sometimes it's an idea I've been mulling over that finally comes out and others it's just nonsense sentences that eventually form something. Basically my advice if you're struggling to get started is just whenever you think you want to do it, just hold a pen and a blank piece of paper and just do it. Maybe it'll be brilliant from the off. First lines are hard so don't worry about it if it's not, fourth lines are where it gets good. I definitely produce 70/30 shit/good writing and that's okay because who's reading it?? Also sometimes you go back a few months later and realise that what you thought was terrible was actually great all along it just needed a different context!

i dont know if this will be helpful. Or confusing. But when i experience writers block i like to live with it (?) i think that its natural and you have to ride the wave. i think art comes to you. Not the other way around. Yes it is fun to create. but inspiration must naturally strike I would get an ounce of an idea and i would push it and stress over completing it. And then get so frustrated And then its not fun anymore. but now when i get an idea i transfer it to a physical medium and once i get stuck, i leave it alone. Until it comes back to me again. Or not at all. And that’s ok too. Not everything has to be completed Keeping creative endeavors in the back of your mind can let them marinate and get nice and lovely. easier said than done but try not to get discouraged that you’re not writing right now. There is some kind of beauty in its absence

For any occasion, even a tuesday. Get some flowers - buy em’ pick em’ - just put them in your house. Take some out of the bouquet before they die and hang them up to dry so you can keep them forever. Not only does a nice flower arrangement brighten up the room but it makes your life feel a little more romantic.

A friend and I randomly decided to get a tattoo, because why not? The shop we had in mind wasn’t taking walk in’s that day so we had to stop by a few more before finding one that would. I ended up getting on with the artist I found who was willing to do it. I had a crocodile tattoo and he was the proud owner of several reptiles. We started hanging out for a while, he’s a great guy and all but the relationship didn't flourish and we didn’t stay close for long. Here’s the thing, I was looking to get some graphic tees printed at the time and he had recommended me to a screen printer. That screen printer and I ended up having more in common than I could have ever imagined. We bonded over art, science fiction, new wave & heavy metal music to name a few things and eventually we started dating. On our first date we built model spaceships out of junk & now we’ve been together for 5 years. You never really know how and when you'll meet someone.
