I haven’t done DIY in a while but my general advice for preserving vibrant color:
* use only color depositing products, shampoo and conditioner, because every time you wash your hair you’re going to be stripping color. Find one that’s closest in tone and warmth to the tones of your hair. You want the conditioner to be as saturated in pigment as possible so look for one that’s very rich in color. When I would bleach my own hair I used to apply purple conditioner to dry hair so that it wasn’t diluted by water and leave it on for a long time like a mask, then rinse it out and shampoo—if you do this try to make sure the product you use doesn’t have any drying alcohols and that it has a nourishing consistency * avoid silicones and sulfates if possible * if you used something like manic panic you can mix the exact color you used with conditioner and use that * wash your hair as infrequently as possible and with the coolest temperature possible * air dry and avoid heat styling as much as possible! If you need to heat style for a special event use heat protectants and don’t apply heat directly to the hair for too long * protect your hair with a bonnet or scarf when you sleep—this will protect your pillowcase from any potential color transfer too because if you’re regularly depositing pigment into the strands they may leach out if you sweat in the night * try to be mindful of direct sun exposure because that can also cause fading—you can buy UV protectant for your hair!! I used to use Fekkai Pre-Soleil mist

But I’ve been washing my hair like daily or every other day with a color safe shampoo and conditioner instead of trying to extend time between washes. I tried everything but I feel like that’s just hateful guidance for me because i have fine hair but it’s incredibly dense and I have a LOT of it. I’m constantly bleaching and coloring it because I’m a hair model and I haven’t gotten in trouble with my stylist so i think it’s going well…. unfortunately can’t say the same about my hot styling brush usage he said those are canceled šŸ˜– RIP because I still don’t know how to use a round brush to this day

Sorry this is so long šŸ˜…
I have straight, fine hair and I currently use the Herbal Essences rose hip shampoo. It's really great at adding shine and making my hair smooth and soft (also smells yummy šŸ˜‹). I've also used the Maui Moisture lightweight hydration shampoo (the pink bottle) and liked it.
Another thing that has been a game-changer for my hair is double shampooing! Because my hair is so straight and fine, it gets oily very quickly. I discovered double shampooing recently (which is just shampooing twice) and it gives my hair a little volume and it can last longer without looking greasy. I do every other day!
For conditioners/leave-ins I highly recommend anything with jojoba oil! My hair LOVES it and since I'm assuming we have similar hair types yours might love it too.
This is an add-on but the Tsubaki Fino hair mask is affordable and makes my hair sooooo shiny!

Investing in a good shampoo and conditioner is key when you have bleach blonde hair in recovery from blasting it with one of those round brush blow dryers the kids on TikTok like to make fun of. I don’t really believe in sustainable consumer goods but this Davines shit is amazing and it comes in ā€œbiodegradableā€ packaging that you can throw in the garbage instead of pretending to recycle it.

My dad teases me about how when I was a little kid, my favorite thing to do when I was on the landline phone with somebody—be it a relative or one of my best friends—was to breathlessly describe the things that were in my bedroom so that they could have a mental picture of everything I loved and chose to surround myself with, and where I sat at that moment in time. Perfectly Imperfect reminds me of that so thanks for always listening and for sharing with me too šŸ’Œ
