Part alt-country. Part alt-rock. Maybe a little jam band-y too? Part electronica (parked in between all the acoustic guitars and weathered-voice growling are samples galore). Often all on the same song! This Liverpool group’s 1998 debut “Bring It On” was a home-recorded fusion of blues, Latin ballads and lo-fi electronic sounds, landing Gomez the Mercury Music Prize over better-known acts like the Verve and Massive Attack. If the Band’s “Music From Big Pink” had been recorded three decades later - what with each group's three distinctive vocalists, sepia-toned outlook and songs for days - it would have sounded like “Tijuana Lady.” 💗

This band has been a personal favorite for me all year long. I recorded my debut album this year and when I would leave the studio their albums always brought me back down to earth. I’d describe it as Latin spaghetti western guitar music soundtracking a Jim Jarmusch movie. As a lyrical songwriter I find instrumental music to be a perfect way to reset my mind.

I found out about this album through a Reddit post of some person that made a Topster of blue albums. this one intrigued me the most because he looks like a typical 90's pop punk boy on the cover. after giving it a listen it has become one of my favorite albums and my comfort album. it's a mix of trip hop and rock. it's a rarity to me finding out about Spanish trip hop. still wish this guy was still alive to keep entertaining me

The man responsible for dozens of Teenage Symphonies to God "Sad songs about happy things" (the first time, as a kid, I can recall the sweet/sour combo of melodies that could make you cry attached to songs about endless, bottomless love) I've long since lost track of how many weddings and funerals I've attended that have featured this song; suffice it to say, "a lot." God only knows what we'd been without him 🙏🏻

Hey tyler hopefully this doesn’t violate some PI.FYI golden rule But after nearly two years of writing, editing and arguing, my book about the EP is coming out in May and can be preordered here:
https://hozacrecords.com/product/aifl/
The book is about the origins, history and cultural impact of the EP since these little objects first started coming out in the 50s. Over 50 of my music biz friends then helped me shape the list and review the top 200 ever released, according to us (ha). For those of you who are into this kind of geekery/snobbery, I can’t wait to hear what you think. A labor of love, as all books are! ❤️
