When I taught my film elective class (intro screenwriting for 7th graders) I started with Toy Story. Obviously Pixar has a tried and true storytelling formula BUT I did have fun emphasizing that Woody’s own failure to lead effectively is really im his undoing. His lack of self-regulation (crashouts) creates all of his problems and it’s only through growth and maturity that his problems are solved.

🎥1. Bridge to Terabithia (2007) - I wanted to have my own little fantasy world down by the creek so bad. also I blame zooey deschanel in this movie for why I have a type
2. Star Wars Ep. III (2005) - bad dialogue be damned this movie goes so hard. clone troopers are cool and the Mustafar scene is incredible.
3. Buzz Lightyear of Star Command (2000) - I can’t believe (yes I can) that Disney retconned an already established Buzz Lightyear canon when they claimed Lightyear (2022) as the first Buzz Lightyear origin story. canonically this movie also existed in the Toy Story universe and is what the buzz action figure was based on. anyway it’s a super fun lil space adventure with some jokes that still hit.
4. The Brainiacs.com (2000) - this is the kinda late 90s early 2000s kids rule parents drool type media that needs to come back. we need more kids making rube goldberg machines and becoming smart toy entrepreneurs out of their bedrooms

👄I don’t think I’m going to complain about small talk anymore. The way we socialize, whether online or in-person, is really sacred and beautiful and things like the weather and current events are unfolding before us means it’s actually good to hear other people’s perspectives. Oh you like when it’s rainy? I love hearing that. I love this website for that reason love you all
