my school put a production of this show the year before it was brought to broadway and im so glad it was because this play is a hidden gem… centering around a high school english class and their discussion of “The Crucible“, and interweaving with aspects of their personal lives, it has some pretty intense subject matter, all of which were handled with immense grace. i think in the current climate (politically, socially etc.) its an important show for teenagers and honestly people of all ages to watch. also lorde is brought up many times and green light is used at the end (& its important thematically!)

i went to see the new broadway production of cabaret this saturday on a complete whim (knowing next to nothing about the show) and i have not been able to stop thinking about it since. what a fun and entertaining yet deeply distressing experience— the intentional, immersive atmosphere brought me (almost blindly…) into the story. i found myself entranced in the hypnotizing world of the kit kat club, then immediately brought out of it by certain impactful moments; the feeling that i was a part of the show in a way made these moments hit me hard, and at times i felt my stomach drop as i was faced with nauseating reality. it can be so easy to move on with your life as though issues affecting others don’t affect you. as my friend lewin put it, it takes effort and a conscious choice not to become evil. if you don’t actively think in opposition to something, you are as good as enabling it— and i intend to treat my own moral views and opinions with more intentionality going forward.
not to mention, i saw this performance immediately after attending a protest against the current trump regime, and the themes of complicity in 1930s germany felt all too relevant to the politics of today. in all, a striking and upsetting, yet somehow incredibly entertaining, show that i feel will stick with me for a while. also, a very queer show. beautiful.

Just finished up a week-long run of Shakespeare's Richard the Third and feeling so proud of everyone involved. I love acting and hope it'll become a bigger part of my life, but even with that said working on this latest production has been so inspirational. I've met and gotten to know so many fantastic people putting their all into theatre as a hobby — for a few of them this was their first time onstage and it was so fun watching them grow and shine as we neared opening night.
Personally, my role in the play as the Duchess of York wasn't a key character, but it was one I found massively challenging for a number of reasons — but once we got into live performances something clicked and I felt like with each show I learned something new about myself and the role.
I can't recommend this enough as an opportunity to meet new people, push yourself out of your comfort zone, and also guilt your friends into spending nearly three hours in a dark cramped room 😁

im getting older and things are happening in my life that have shifted my priorities, and because of that i feel more detached from some of the friends that have been the closest to me for years on end. i dont have a problem with any of them specifically, i think this is just the natural progression of things. i had trouble confronting this at first, but accepting that growth also comes with certain sacrifices or loss is just a part of the process.
