or whichever app is your go-to for numbing! currently reading the new Dean Spade (love in a fucked up world) and felt soooo moved by the 2nd chapter on patterns of behavior that we use to numb/dissociate (such as repeatedly opening an app/scrolling it with no intention)
anytime i delete the app off my phone im amazed at how much free time and attention it feels like i have to share.

sometimes the things that the internet offers you feel like they’re poking an open wound and you need to delete Instagram for 10-24 hours. this app has helped me do that bc for better or worse… I need to be Scrolling On Phone and this is much more calm

i have an iphone and deleting instagram off of my homescreen (so that i can still access the app if i want) is a game changer. it helps to curb the kind of muscle memory you get from opening it automatically to begin the mindless scroll. i still check it maybe look at a few posts but overall i'm barely on it now. i would spend 2+ hours a day on it scrolling mindlessly and by best time was thursday when i spent a whopping seven minutes on it!!!

I deleted the app off my phone, but I’m logged in on browser and I check stories and messages there. But I kinda love not having IG with me wherever I go. It quells the urge to post everything for validation or to prove I’m having fun/looking hot. I also don’t get the crazy ads on browser, and I don’t get sucked into the insanity of the explore page (which is exclusively weight-loss content somehow) because on browser, search and discover are different buttons. A lot of 2025 for me has been treating my Poster’s Disease. I nuked my Twitter/X account, and only use Bluesky (took that app off my phone too). I’ll download the Instagram app like once a week to share some work and things to stories, but I feel 10000x more sane not scrolling the app on my phone all the time. I’ll check Reddit or Substack apps if I need a lil scroll action. Read, write, be present with your friends. Take back your attention in anyway you can!

this involves DEVELOPING YOUR DISCERNMENT AND DISCOMFORT TOLERANCE SKILLS! is that person morally evil or just not your cup of tea? are they trying to make you feel uncomfortable or are they also maybe a little nervous and doing their best? we could really change the landscape of what community looks like if we open ourselves up to the idea of consistently offering respect and dignity to others even when we’re not dying to become their best friend, and joyfully sharing space with someone we might not ever know more than as an acquaintance. those are members of your community too! this also allows for change over time- in the individual and in your own perspective and capacity for connection.

an intuitively mindful activity that humans have been doing forever. despite its innate destruction i find myself feeling connected to the earth. some logs are harder to chop through if they have knots, even in death the tree’s commitment to self preservation is admirable.
