interviewed the fine folks behind this in the latest issue of my newsletter, and i wanted to share it here too. this is an actual, physical directory for the indie web, and in addition to supplementary essays / art / flourishes, every site included has a little phone number that you can "call" via the phone book's website to get there without having to type the whole URL.
in addition to being extremely cute, the creators have talked a lot about how valuable manual curation is for discovering the web, which is something i imagine many folks here know well! highly recommend joining their mailing list so you can nab a copy when the reprents go up

a website full of websites! all independent, hand-crafted, incredibly personal, and wonderfully interesting. this is what inspired me to learn how to code in the first place, so i could make a fun little site and join the indie web community <3 if you're sick of social media, this is a lovely alternative imo

sUCH an incredible archive of cyberfeminist works from the early days of the internet until now. i’ve linked the website, but the book’s really cool too. really incredible design, both aesthetically & functionally. the way it internally references other sections of the book captures a Wikipedia-esque clicking-through-links quality of online research, which is really impressive in such a static medium. i want it so so desperately but for now i must simply admire it in bookshops

Kris (from Naive Weekly)- This defines and maps the landscape of the ‘small’ web. This map highlights the projects and ideas that shape it. The result is a beautifully crafted site that offers a visual taxonomy of different ‘types of websites,’ along with a wealth of links to fascinating, personal, and often arcane corners of the internet. These digital spaces are curated by strangers who simply enjoy creating and experimenting online. Have a click around and see where it takes you. Personally, I’m drawn to the feral web this year; it feels fitting.

spent the last two weeks working on an interactive guide, recommendations database, and digital library (link depot) to help get people off of social media. the first draft is done now, and it's at the link to this post.
it's still very much a work in progress (the library is especially thin atm) - which is why i wanted to share it here before unleashing it upon my IRL friends and the general public. i welcome any and all feedback, bug reports, and suggestions for things to add. i will be pushing updates to it out like a madman in the coming weeks, so be sure to check back every so often to see new additions to the database and library.
additionally, i am still on the hunt for newsletters from local venues / community organizations / magazines / newspapers, etc. the only cities i have remotely covered so far are nyc, orlando, denver, brisbane, and little bits of worcester and chicago. if you know anything in your area that fits the bill, send it my way!
