most underrated part of NYC no contest. There’s a truck on the corner of 69th and Roosevelt that does a torta so good I ate it maybe 75 days in a row. I think Scorpion Bar is still around about a block east. If you play pool BQE Billiards does $6/hr for two people and has the levelest tables on Long Island. Also this is Greenpoint so ~40 min walk but Film Noir Cinema has screened around 80% of the best movies I’ve ever seen for last I checked $10 a ticket. Sometimes the owner (Mr. Malitek) doesn’t tell you what he’s screening but I’ve only ever been disappointed once (1974 optometrist thriller called Ghost Eyes). There’s also a place near there called Hana Makgeolli that brews some pretty knockout korean rice wine if that’s your thing.

Not exactly known for being cheap, but there are lots of great places on the UES, especially if you’re willing to walk east! Things will decrease in price/raise in quality if you cross Lex. We have outposts of two amazing Brooklyn favorites, Lucia Pizza and Regina’s Grocery (impeccable Italian sandwiches, skip the overhyped Milano Market). As I posted the other day, the froyo at Butterfield is out of this world (food is decent as well, if wildly expensive). I’ve only been once, but people like the new Joju (popular place in Flushing) for banh mi. Also not quite on topic and a bit of a walk north but I’d be remiss in not telling you about Earl’s Beer and Cheese, my favorite bar that also has very good food.

It depends on who the guest is/where they’re from. If they’re from California they’re gonna laugh in my face when I take them to get ā€œreally good tacos, I swear!ā€ I find though that going to a NYC Chinatown (particularly sunset park or flushing) or going to the queens night market when it’s in season is always a hit. Flushing is such a unique place that it truly feels like you’ve landed in an Asian city rather than a New York neighborhood. I love the night market because you can sample so many different cuisines for cheap, which I feel like really showcases the beauty of New York food. It’s not gonna be the most mind blowing meal, but the diversity is usually what impresses people (and still impresses me)
