Obv depends on the dates your here. It's easier to mention stuff for a visit, because when you actually move, recommendations will def depend on where you're at. (Like as an example -Everyone could give you a bunch of great Pilsen or Logan things to do, all of which will hold less value if you're living way up the Red Line.)

My recommendation if you’re looking to start going to openings is to sign up for gallery newsletters and plot out who has overlapping art openings (usually on first Friday’s). Organize your gallery-hopping by neighborhood! Grab a friend, plot where you’ll get snacks along the way.

I live in Chicago! Depending on where you're staying, there's a bunch of cool things to do as Chicago is a city of neighborhoods.
Wicker Park and Logan Square are popular neighborhoods to check out and they're on the cheaper end. California Clipper, Rainbo Club, and Common Decency are bars that are worth checking out. I know that Common Decency has a happy hour 4-6pm 7 days a week.
If you're into movies, check out the Music Box Theatre! It's a 95 year old arthouse movie theatre in the Southport Corridor/Lakeview neighborhood that shows independent and second run films. Speaking of Lakeview, Clark Street is pretty popular if you're going to check out Wrigley Field! There are bars up and down the block so you won't need to walk far to find a place to drink at for cheap.
If you need any more ideas or recommendations, let me know!

There‘s so much to do and so many hidden gems it really depends on your vibe! Where are you staying?
Kingston Mines is a blues club that’s been around forever- they have live music, food, and drinks.
Chicago does street fests so well and they’re what I think of when I think of summer. There’s something every weekend basically.
Millenium Park also does a free concert series. It’s great to picnic and listen to great music. A lot of well known artists do it.
We have beaches!!!! You probably won’t have a bike but if you do… bike up to a beach.
The river architecture tour is so cool, I loved it even as a person who has been living here for 15 years.
In the summer it’s really easy to stumble upon stuff, which is what I love about summer in the city. There’s also a dive bar on basically every street so if you’re looking for a chill place to have a beer, those are easy to find.

Even if you end up having to go somewhere else, there still will be culture to get involved in, people to meet, things to learn, realizations to be made. All of that is still right there for you and it will be open in a way you won't even realize until you've done like a year or two. So it's truly still exciting times. As long as you feel generally good about the place you ultimately choose, your time is coming.
