I was pretty depressed at a certain point last year and had a work trip to Luxembourg coming up. My friend recommended Patriot as some of it takes place in Luxembourg.
The main character is also mad depressed. and the general tone of the show is bleak, dull and dreary with some dark comedy. This fit my mood perfectly in that it just allowed me to just be with my feelings and almost validated how I was feeling.
In the show they portray Luxembourg as a simultaneously boring and super safe place to go yet crime suddenly starts to occur as soon as they get there. Coincidentally within a couple of hours of my arrival, I went and got mugged.
The show was cancelled after two seasons which was disappointing as I thought it was a decent show.

Ok so to start I saw Benedict cumberpatch was in it and not like excited about that but he did good so ig I can’t say anything LOL now for the actual review: This was NOT what I expected, but like in a great way. I thought this was going to be one following detectives and police and idk just like other crime shows but it was much cooler.
It follows Vincent, the creator/a pupeteer in a children’s show who is also a shitty dude and shitty father, makes everyone miserable, but it seems like his son still looks up to him. But his home life isn’t great, his parents have loud arguments where things get thrown, his dad has a bad attitude towards him, etc. One day Vincint is asked to walk his 9 year old son to school, but he doesn’t and he goes missing. In a New York prior to cell phones, the story takes place in a time where we still see cases of racism, homophobia, corruption, and a large homeless population rumored to be hiding underground. Regretting his choices but still not getting along with his wife, the perspective changes between multiple characters and their search to find Edgar. Full of this regret for how he treated his son the night before and day of, we watch this father spiral, go back to his bad habits, and hallucinate the character his son has created.
There’s a lot more to it, but I’m worried my phones ab out to crash and don’t want to spoil bht it was really interesting and good, I would recommend it!

Mad Men was dominating television and PanAm, another period drama also set in the 60s, was poised to ride their coattails into the sky. It didn’t work out as planned and the result is one of the biggest television train wrecks I’ve ever witnessed. Some scenes are so ridiculous that I had to rewind to confirm that I wasn’t dreaming. It’s not quirky, it’s not camp, but secret third thing that I don’t think I’ll ever figure out. Christina Ricci gives a performance that can only be described as…frantic. Aside from terrible ratings, Margot Robbie’s team is probably responsible for the show’s cancellation. She was set to star in Wolf of Wall Street during what would’ve been PanAm’s second season. The two simply could not exist at the same time. Someone said ā€œchoose your fateā€ and Margot definitely chose the right path. Thank you, Apple TV, for bringing this gem to the streaming universe. I hope some indie theater kids find this show and create a parody that truly highlights how insane PanAm truly was.

Legion was a short lived masterpiece on FX from 2017-19 that is a near perfect show…. and next to no one watched it. It was created by Noah Hawley (of Fargo fame) and based the Marvel comics by Chris Claremont and Bill Sienkiewicz - and it stands singularly on its own in tone, storytelling, writing, and aesthetic from the MCU (and tv in general, really).
It’s such a hauntingly good show that was capable of terrifying you, absolutely breaking your heart, and making you die of laughter- usually all in one episode. and of course, it features an incredible cast: Aubrey Plaza (on a whole other level), Dan Stevens, Bill Irwin, Jemaine Clement, Jean Smart, Hamish Linklater, Nevid Negahban, and more.
It’s on Hulu, and I recommend not binge watching for your own peace of mind.

Saw them in Dublin the other day. Seeing them in London on Friday. Amazing band. They play with their backs to the crowd yet I managed to be side of stage so I didn’t even get to experience that quirk properly

Kim Dealā€˜s whistle tone on Oh only happens once and I hate her and love her for that. Because it’s such a tease and it leaves me yearning for more. Slint’s Britt Walford on drums. Hitting every note with such purpose, never flashy, always tasteful and complimentary.

In Ireland magic mushrooms are illegal. However there is a loop hole where mushroom inoculated substrate can be shipped from Holland to Ireland by post. Then you can grow them yourself in the privacy of your own home!
