I recently finished the Valis tetralogy by Philip K. Dick. I loved Valis (the first in the series) but as it went on, it got super heady and tedious. But yanno what? I’m glad I finished every book. I feel like my opinions and analysis are vindicated after seeing it all through and even if I didn’t love the experience, I wouldn’t say I suffered any grave loss of my time or anything. Being a completionist is cool, and I‘d rather have something bad to say than nothing at all.

Following through on things is good. At least for me I think it is. And you never know, maybe it all comes together on the last page.

the last time I forced it was the marriage portrait by Maggie o something and while I do think the last four pages of the book were the best of the entire book, I feel like the rest of it was not worth it. I think most books that I consider DNFing and end up reading all the way through, I would say the same for. it’s almost like a sense of FOMO where you’re going to miss some great sensation or sense of understanding shared by everyone who’s read the book if you don’t finish it but I’d say it’s almost always not worth it

I don’t know if “scary” quite describes this one, but it definitely stuck with me for days after I watched it. I still think about it to this day. “Deeply upsetting“ more fits the bill. It’s just two hours of the most destructive and toxic relationship ever portrayed on film with some horror elements for flare. Makes you want to curl up into a ball and never experience romantic feelings for another person ever again This recommendation comes with a big asterisk. This is whatever the opposite of life-affirming is, so if you like feeling like shit definitely check it out.
