the last time I forced it was the marriage portrait by Maggie o something and while I do think the last four pages of the book were the best of the entire book, I feel like the rest of it was not worth it. I think most books that I consider DNFing and end up reading all the way through, I would say the same for. it’s almost like a sense of FOMO where you’re going to miss some great sensation or sense of understanding shared by everyone who’s read the book if you don’t finish it but I’d say it’s almost always not worth it

I recently finished the Valis tetralogy by Philip K. Dick. I loved Valis (the first in the series) but as it went on, it got super heady and tedious. But yanno what? I’m glad I finished every book. I feel like my opinions and analysis are vindicated after seeing it all through and even if I didn’t love the experience, I wouldn’t say I suffered any grave loss of my time or anything.
