The SINGLE time I asked ShitGPT to clean up some out of date code from a community theatre website I was working on with 50 years of shows listed in the archives, and recreate the show list with better, more modern code, it just...made up shows. Didn't bother using the ones I plugged into it. And that was when I realized that AI is absolutely useless.

I saw people talking about an author who apparently accidentally left a prompt telling AI to emulate a different author while writing parts of their own book😵‍💫 I guess the book or ebook has now been edited on Amazon, but how embarrassing for them. To call yourself an author and do that. Yikes.

@SAYLOR Ridiculous! Not to excuse the behavior, but it's also a bit sad that people in all lines of work are being systemically bullied into using it for fear of "being left behind" (which of course is bs)

@MATTSHAWSOME yep, and just wait till you hear about the murder trial where they used an AI video of the victim to address the courtroom post-mortem

@THECLACK okay, that's fascinating — watching the video it is hard not to be taken in and feel as though I'm actually hearing from the real guy but of course it isn't him

"People have told me that Feed is coming true. (Many of the technologies I discussed have been explored in recent years.) But in a sense, I believe it already was the reality when I was writing. I was already dreaming in advertisements." YA (oldstyle YA, not condescending or sanitized) dystopian social media satire. Incredibly fucking sad.

when i pulled up to the bar and saw Ethan reading this is I said “what is that?” and then said “what year is this?” Anyway, it’s a cool sci-fi lit mag with coupons and cut-and-mail subscription. Feels very good for fans of PI’s reading group and Left Hand of Darkness in particular. (I read a story about what sexual autonomy means in an age of complex body/mind modification ((which we should all aspire to.))
😃
His Short stories are so delightful and nutritious. thinking about technology and its utility in a practical but also creative way. a great antidote to ai doomerism.

Here it is, folks! Volume I of what could very well be a continuous project. Thank you so much to everyone that submitted - I smiled the entire time I was putting this together. It's best listened to with headphones ☺️ Liner Notes: This collection of field recordings is a collaborative effort with users of PI.FYI, each of which recorded their own pieces. It features audio from all over the world and exhibits eclectic moments from London Underground commutes to cuckoo bird calls in Dhaka to the sounds of a century-old American diner. Online communities like PI.FYI often represent a diverse set of people, places, and experiences, but together, the submissions form a living collage that highlights the commonalities of modern life - a unifying message for such a tumultuous time. The first track features all of the sounds played at once in an attempt to create an audio snapshot of an online community but in their offline lives. The individual recordings are unedited except for minor gain and compression adjustments for consistency across the collection.
