I have over 100 tabs open on the Wikipedia app at any given time. There are some things I simply have to know more about. Recent deep dives have included Onfim, Ketchup as a vegetable, and the Cretaceous–Paleogene extinction event.
Really a picture of where my mind is. Last night when I was supposed to be falling asleep I was thinking about a certain HRO post that I could not find and was delusionally hoping it would be mentioned on its Wikipedia page but of course the page is shamefully skeletal.
Thinking about the Food Babe and her consequences because she‘s randomly mentioned on the cover of the 2024 annual print issue of Evie the demented propaganda rag (which we will discuss in the next episode of Gilded)? Just thinking a lot as always but Wikipedia clearly hasn’t factored too heavily into that thinking as of late…
It's far too easy for me to burn a few hours digging through Wikipedia hyperlinks and trawling through yards of text. It's a very fun way to gain cursory knowledge about possibly obscure topics, and you can find some pretty bizarre stuff if you know where to look.
I recently came across r/knolling and I am now obsessed. I love it so much. Seeing people's trinkets or the things they carry around in their bag is so fascinating. Those things also being organised perfectly just adds a whole new level of bliss.
Hitting the 'sound ID' button and nearby birds being identified by their songs is one of life's greatest pleasures. The rush I get from travelling somewhere new and adding a new bird to my life list. Being able to say "oh, that's a European Starling". I'm 27 and birdwatching (birdlistening?) is my fav hobby.
