iām spending the week in nyc this week so obviously as iām walking the streets iām reminded of all my fav flicks set in this city...
special effects was written/directed by larry cohen - one of the coolest and weirdest b-movie writer/directors. i love all of his 70s-80s movies. they have the craziest scripts, he casts weird background characters, and always delivers a vibe. heās usually working on a small budget so thereās a rawness and realness within his bizzaro worlds.
it stars a young eric bogosian (talk radio, uncut gems) playing an unhinged delusional director in the midst of making a very meta movie about a murder he committed. his loft in the movie is one of my fav sets ever. indoor stain glass windows, all red bedroom. iām sure someone on here can tell me itās precise location. it also stars zoe lund (ms. 45, bad lieutenant) - her accents, look, and range is unreal. i donāt wanna say too much and spoil the plot really, but if you dig movies about movies, brian de palma or abel ferrera stuff, then you should check this outā¦
