now that doesnt sound wildly interesting but hear me out. as a mentally ill person doing the dishes often feels like a herculean task (especially bc i like baking). so much of that was bc i always had huge mixing bowls "soaking" in the sink to be hand-washed later. i recently threw em out and got some plastic ones i can put in the dishwasher. this has made a massive difference somehow. theres not always a big nasty bowl in the sink taunting me and making it seem like there are so many more undone dishes than there are. IF U HAVE A DISHWASHER u may as well have dishwashable things!!

It’s the size of Carmela Soprano’s kitchen tv but with only 1 channel: dishwashing. I am a neat freak in a tiny apartment and this gives me so much joy. It’s not even the large/bulky dishes that are so tedious to wash by hand- it’s the jars/bottles with small ass plastic pieces/lids! Byeeee tedium!!!

something healing about just cleaning it all up and no one being mad or upset or petty, just a bowl that broke, sharp shards that you wrapped up, a small cut that you bandaged, and a new bowl from the cabinet for your soup, almost peaceful in an inexplicable way

since the first day of middle school (and i remember this cus it felt like a Very Big Day for me) my alarm has been set as Walk Don't Run by The Ventures cus i was a little surf guitar loving dweeb. u would think i'd be tired of it after 15 yrs of setting multiple alarms to wake myself up/take my meds etc but i'm not! people always comment on how nice it is when they hear it too... esp my granddad ^_^

like many baristas my age, i had an affinity for french pop music as a highschooler, particularly "yé-yé", which was what they called 60's pop! i was down with a bad case of main character syndrome (a common symptom of being a teenager) so i loved the drama of it all - chic and taboo like smoking secret cigarettes 🙄 i was also taking french in school - i was terrible at it but being able to vaguely understand the lyrics helped me to appreciate it even more. flash fwd a few years & i was finally presented with the opportunity to travel to france!!! i never ever thought i'd get to see paris but the stars aligned and i spent a week there in summer 2023 with my fiancé and my dad (which was particularly special bc i never get to travel with him) 🥺 it was incredibly romantic (despite the lack of air conditioning...wtf europe) and i had also gotten my garçon into the french music i'd loved as a teen so our visit was soundtracked by the likes of françoise hardy, jacqueline taïeb, jacques brel, sylvie vartan, jacques dutronc, jane birkin, serge gainsbourg (melody nelson holds up if i pretend i don't know what he's saying!!) etc 🥰 the video i linked is one of the only videos i took while in paris, and it's possibly my fav video i've taken ever - the little girl i accidentally caught dancing in front of the eiffel tower makes me smile every time i watch it.
