held a dinner party as an early birthday thing and it was a smash hit! it was the first one i ever held so i was worried about how my cooking skills (or lack thereof) and hostessing would go down but it was so lovely, i was so pleased!! this was the evening plan: theme: black and red ♠️♦️ dress code: black/red, as fancy as you're feeling (not a strict code but we love a good theme) 🎲 appetiser: firebug's roulette (chicken skewers i marinated overnight; the name was just to mess with my friends, it wasn't a roulette) 🐞 cocktails: the cassette (coffee liqueur and chocolate) and the ladybug (cherry syrup, vanilla and cherry liqueur) πŸ“Ό mains: the pinochle (slow cooked shredded beef ragu with homemade hand-cut pappardelle) and admiral's chrysalis (veggie option; the same thing but with pesto instead of ragu) πŸ’ dessert: the ebony way (yes that is a reference to exactly what you think it is; chocolate cake pops served with a cherry on top) 🎴 game: instead of place cards, every plate had a randomly drawn tarot card. your rank would dictate and odd rule you had to abide by for the evening, and if anyone figured out what it is, they'd win points and you'd lose them. plus points for successfully throwing someone off! i wasn't expecting it to go as good as it did - my cooking skills are teetering on a hope and a prayer as is, but i got lucky! people loved the starters (i had to experiment with whether to air fry them or pan fry them, and in the end i had to tweak the seasoning to get them to be as moist and flavourful in the middle as i wanted) and while the pasta was a little wonky and thicker than it should have been, it was still tasty. the ragu was an absolute highlight. honestly i think it's the best thing i've ever cooked - so rich and wonderful and hgggg. smelled amazing too. the dessert was fairly low effort but the cake pops were moist and tasty, and while i'd come up with the game a little on the fly an hour before people showed up, it ended up being a lot of fun! playlist went down a treat too, which is always a bonus. and some of the outfits people rcoked up in were ???? so cool?? omg. but yeah, long story short, i had an amazing time!! if anyone's hungering for a good ragu recipe lmk and i'll send you the link πŸ™

I threw a dinner party last night and it was so much fun! It’s winter and it’s been pretty bleak, so I thought it be nice to have friends over. This was my first time hosting something completely solo and I thought it would be very stressful but it was smooth sailing and the night was merry and cute! For me this past year has really been about platonically putting myself out there and forging local friendships and last night felt like a cumulation of that effort :-) It wasn’t a super fancy meal, but still, very nice. It’s great to be invited but its also like sometimes you gotta make the magic happen

Did I need to invite six people round for dinner? Absolutely not. Was it a delight? Yes! Nothing more I love in life than feeding my friends and curating a playlist for it. Also, a customary plate of radishes 🫜 non negotiable imo

inviting all your friends into your house then eating dinner with them and then playing cards? Idyllic! A hard-to-come-down-from HIGH you can’t get anywhere else Last night I got help cooking, cleaning, repotting my plants and packing for my trip! All cause I said; hey come over for dinner! magic is real

i've been really into the idea of taking myself on little solo dates and being generally kinder to myself lately, i think i've been happier with myself recently than i have ever been (the joys of growing up, i guess). and the realisation that i have real adult money and free will and can spend it on whatever is fun! i've been going to more concerts and on little trips and i saw that this one comedy duo i've been seeing a lot on social media were doing a live recording of their podcast in glasgow later this month, and i booked a ticket! planning on taking the day to do a little walking tour of the city, check out a doughnut place someone recommended to me, find a cool looking bar and order myself a pretty cocktail and head to the show - just really make a day of it :) i don't know, i guess i've been really leaning into the idea that of all the people in my life, i am the one i'll have to spend the most time with, and i've been learning to have more fun hanging out with myself, and i feel like i'm coming into my own a little which just makes me so happy <3 hang out with yourself more! life is short man

i've been doing little things to make my life a little easier, like leaving a bottle of water, iron supplements and some belvita soft bakes right by my bed so i always have breakfast, water and iron in the morning, and keeping a very condensed set of skincare stuff right by my toothbrush - it might not be as effective as having more but getting myself to use a cleanser, moisturising sunscreen and vaseline every day has already made my skin feel so much better which has just gotten me more excited to do my routine every day. plus, getting body sprays and haircare stuff and just products in general that you really like the smell of is a game changer because now i get to smell like pineapples and caramel every day! it's such little things but it makes me happy and keeps me doing a routine of things that are good for me :))

there's really something about summer. i was back in my home city and i've been more content than i've been in ages. i've been slowly but surely becoming a more functional, productive person and i revised for an exam in the sun, got myself a really good chai latte, took myself for a long walk - slowly feeling less like a cave creature trapped in mental hibernation
