Not necessarily a recommendation. I’m half way through and there is no specific plot. It’s about the narrator’s childhood stories. Sometimes it is entertaining to come across the same experiences you’ve had as a child. So, I have mixed feelings about it but would love to hear anybody’s thoughts if they’ve read this.

A “memoir of a place”, Crapalachia is the semi-unreliable account/ recollection of growing up and coming of age in rural West Virginia. Throughout reading (well, listening to) this, I found myself jumping between sadness and laugh out loud laughter. The characters often feel exaggerated to the point that I feel there’s no chance it’s an accurate recollection, but then there are moments where they’re brought back down to earth instantly grounding them and making sense of some of their eccentricities. To give you a small taste of what’s in store for you if you choose to read this - the antics McClanahan recounts range from helping his uncle pour beer down his feeding tube before listening to his favorite radio preacher, to visiting his Grandma’s pre purchased grave because it’s a “good investment”.

So I actually finished this book yesterday and I know I'm gonna be thinking about it for a long long time. it's a coming of age story about a young boy growing up in 1980s working-class Glasgow during the Thatcher administration but it's also just as much about his mother's struggle with alcohol addiction. It's a sad read but there's also a lot of hope in this book, and I found the ending really satisfying If you check it out, I recommend a silly read after, almost as a dessert if you will. i'm rereading one of the Clique books before I dive into another serious read and i'm having a good time!

You come to the living room but it's really cold so you go and get your throw blanket and sit on the couch being excited to get all warm.

I just watched this video on transcendental meditation explained by David Lynch and found it very interesting. It is a good start if you want to learn about how existing actually plays out in your life or just to understand the power of your mind.
