So I actually finished this book yesterday and I know I'm gonna be thinking about it for a long long time. it's a coming of age story about a young boy growing up in 1980s working-class Glasgow during the Thatcher administration but it's also just as much about his mother's struggle with alcohol addiction. It's a sad read but there's also a lot of hope in this book, and I found the ending really satisfying If you check it out, I recommend a silly read after, almost as a dessert if you will. i'm rereading one of the Clique books before I dive into another serious read and i'm having a good time!

If you ever wanted to know what it was like as someone Queer in Glasgow in the 80's, then this is the book for you. I finished it in one day. It's depressing, it's joyful, it's all the bits about falling in love for the first time, and then all the heartbreak life throws at you. The ending is *chefs kiss*, the middle is a range of every emotion. If you need a great book to hit you in the feels, then this is the one.

i will never forget the sheer amount of emotions this book evoked from me. i was somber, i was giddy, i was utterly disgusted, and i was moved. can’t compare it to the movie, since i’ve never seen it but 😳 this is the only book i’ve read that’s made me want to vomit at one line and made me laugh in the next. i cannot recommend it enough. be prepared, though. this book is super unsettling at times and can be terribly upsetting. the author also makes it a point to write in traditional scottish slang, which at first is hard to get used to, and then starts to feel like a secret language. eventually, you’ll know who’s talking just based on the phrases they use. give it a shot :)

A novel about a young man growing up during the Thatcher era in England, all while openly gay & forming relationships, often precarious or illicit, with London’s high society. Beautifully (beautifullyyyy) written, witty, and often times just straight up horny. It’s taking me a second to get back into it but I’m over halfway through and curious as to where it’s gonna go …….lots of people said they cried finishing it so I’m scared 😟
