for real though, I've had several names and my deadname and legal name (both different) are not interesting to me or profound in origin. I was gonna be named Avery, which is honestly really cool with me, but another parent they knew who gave birth the same day named their kid Avery first. so they decided to name me something else to be original on the spot. ๐

so flowers, my current and most recent name... came from a halo machinima series ๐ he was my favorite character and everyone just started calling me that and it really resonates with me as a name of who I am in vibe. it reminds me of some really great times and people I love. when I use it I feel more connected to who I was then and bridging it with nowย ย

It was my great-grandfatherโs name and a certain great kingโs name.
When I was a kid it was a pain in the ass โ I got many unwelcome nicknames from classmates (Salmon, Salamander, Solly) and often had to repeat my name to people, who might mishear it as โSullivanโ or would often, forgetfully, call me โSimonโ. But I donโt ever remember wishing I had another name.
I felt a kinship to King Solomon โ his wisdom and justness. That was recently emphatically reinforced when I came across this beautiful late-16th century Persian painting, Solomon Takes Advice from the Animals, at the Chester Beatty Museum in Dublin. Solomon had the ability to speak to all animals, and, even with his great wisdom, would seek advice from them. The story goes:
โOne day, he had the opportunity to drink the water of life, and to live forever. Hesitating, he decided first to take advice from the animals and birds. They all gathered at his court, and discussed the great decision. The heron advised the king not to choose immortality. There was only enough water for one person, the bird said, so if Solomon were to drink it, then he would outlive everyone he loved.โ

And I felt lucky that it wasnโt taken when I joined the app. Itโs also a signature part of my personality. Embracing my childhood name-call curse for the better. Weird is good!

bringing something up out of nowhere that you would like to talk about when there is no real transition is weird and a bit awkward. you know whatโs more awkward? Talking about nothing! if there is a lull in the convo and everyones thoughts have run dry, just ask peopleโs thoughts on a random thing you like. the only time this hasnโt worked for me is when the people Iโm talking to are looking for a way out of the conversation and Iโm just completely unaware lmao
