Just Asking peoples names instead of pretending

I developed a pre-rehearsed self-deprecating “I’m so sorry what’s your name again, I always forget and then it’s always too long after meeting to ask haha arent i brave and honest for saying so” kinda speech. And it’s literally always met with a “haha I’m the same way, my name is…” or “thank god I’d forgotten yours too!”. (this rec may only work on British people? I’m not sure).
