I was listening to something about this. the mass production of mirrors and therefor access is like way more recent then I would have thought. Early 20th century maybe?
Insane to think mirrors creating a new reality of image For us that simply didn’t exist. And to think about how much suffering comes from this reality of image (not looking good one day and it affecting mood or worse hating appearance full stop)

@NICK3 it is crazy! true about a lot of recent developments, way more setting and hearing yourself than ever before
In typical guy fashion I don't have one in my room at all but I really am kinda sick of it. I need to reconfigure some things to free up the proper wall space for one. As a kid I never really cared and it wasn't on my parent's priority list for decorating my room. The flea market ones are kinda pricy though and more than anything that's what has kept me from biting the bullet. I have resorted to whatever reflective surfaces there are including picture frames and powered off tv's

@GRAPE I do love the creativity. My bedroom closet had two mirror sliding doors so basically half a wall was mirror in two of the bedrooms in our childhood home, so my parents didn't have to think about it and I never pictured a life where a mirror was something one had to acquire until moving out. That being said, I got a decent one for $20 off Facebook marketplace for my first apartment.

@GRAPE marketplace is always a good call. Always funny accidental selfies from people trying to sell theirs on there. I do kinda feel like a good mirror is a lifetime purchase though so I wouldn’t mind splurging on a cool flea market one eventually.. maybe when I find employment this summer

@STARLET Time and time again we seem to live the same life! I just mentioned the mirror closet doors in a comment above. my newest mirror is command taped onto the room door because we also didn't have enough wall space.

do you ever just stand really close to your mirror and just stare at yourself until you don't recognise the person you're looking at, and then you do like an evil smile and you scare yourself. like is this person even me? i don't do that but i'm just wondering if you do
