Soooo until I made this scarf I freehanded EVERYTHING bc patterns seemed too difficult to read and I felt like I wouldn’t be able to adjust them without knowing The Rules. This scarf is super tiny and quick so it doesn’t feel like a daunting investment. There’s also a bunch of YouTube videos on simple open knit sweater/tops that could be helpful to following along on. getting comfortable freehand knitting made me more confident when approaching patterns when I decided to do that but I know for other people it can be the other way around ! One free hand tip I have is to get some circular needles that more or less correspond to the circumference of your belly and knit from bottom to top a tank top by experimenting with increases, decreases, and splitting the shirt at the armpits and finagling some straps.

hello! i think this is a good project for you to do and with the time you have to finish, i think you can accomplish it. while i haven’t sewn anything this extravagant yet i think if you put your mind to it, it will come great. tips from my own experiences: 🧵 choose fabric carefully not sure where you are with hand sewing, but there’s so much that makes life easier when you get the right fabric, needle, and machine attachments. personally i have stuck to non stretch fabrics (mostly cotton) for my projects because it’s easy to work with and you really just need to straight stitch. if you want to use some other material, you should research what needle, stitch, and machine attachments work best with it and practice first 🧵 go slow with your project when you rush things go awry. pace yourself throughout the months when you are making this. sometimes that looks like having one day devoted to assembling the pattern and cutting out the pieces, next time it’s starting the sewing. for example, i had a cosplay i made on and off for 2 weeks because i wanted to make sure it was fine a few days before the convention. 🧵 draft the dress it says for this pattern listing this is a drar-at-home one. i think before you make the real thing, you may want to draft this with some other cloth to get the vibe first. 🧵videos, videos, videos i think my saving grace was also getting inspired by people sewing online and finishing their stuff. looking at your pattern of choice, there’s a YouTuber i watch named Cindy Leaux who makes a few advanced pieces like this one. she may offer some inspo and encouragement along the way. 🧵 get the seam ripper in the case of you messing up, seam rippers will most likely not damage the fabric so much. get one to save yourself from any mishaps with the thread 🧵 **extra note ** 🧵 i didn’t look fully in the pattern but you mentioned something about a corset. i am not sure if this is something you are wearing under the dress or adding to it, but i will say i have done boning before and it’s doable. you just need to mark out your technique beforehand

whilst its not yet finished i’m still rather proud of it, despite the dodgy hems and seams i’m #persevering the charity shop clearance rail will always have my back for cheap sewing projects šŸ™ sometimes i don’t even end up wearing these clothes, mostly they’re just me testing my own abilities and patience because i refuse to use measurements, patterns or any sort of guide (they overwhelm me).

idk how i came across this in my daily wikipedia surfs, but something about this painting just amuses me so much. my first impression was this looks fairly modern in a way, possibly because of the composition and how she made her features so light and bouncy. it oddly made me think of disney when i looked for longer. then i see it was made in 1909 šŸ˜‚ this painting can transcend times and i wouldn’t truly know when it was made unless i looked more closely at the objects around the subject. but even that can be a stretch as vintage items can be popular amongst anyone and they can just have their vanity setup look like this. i tried looking for photographs of her online but alas nothing came up with certainty.
